Hats off to all those involved in getting the ball rolling in Sore Heel!
I know a lot of what has been done back there was Johnny's handywork and vision, but MAJOR PROPS to all those involved in the D-Day work (sorry we mised out, the FS/LAC Field Trip is our excuse). This past Labor Day weekend Jill and I took advantage of the fruits of those volunteers labor. The trail system and route development in Sore Heel are such great additions to the PMRP, but on this busy Labor Day weekend the crags back there were EMPTY. Why? While we didn't mind having the crag to ourselves, I just had to wonder if climbers know what is out there waiting for them? I hope that as fall decends on Kentucky that climbers come out and sample the new crags and routes in Sore Heel and realize all the cool stuff going on in the Big Sinking courtesy of the RRGCC members and volunteers.
Way to Go
Ya know, since you mentioned it...
I feel like I totally don't know what's going on with the southern region. What I know is that there's that one parking area to Shady Grove that is used to access Drive By also. Also, as far as I know, anything beyond and including the Oil Crack Wall are off limits. That's all I know. Is this info correct?

Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.
Well Artsay I'm glad you asked.
There are a couple of parking areas used to access the crags back there. The new area for Sore Heel (Vol Wall, Left Field, Playground, and Shady Grove) as well as the old one where you have to cross the ditch off of Bald Knob Rd. As for Marley and Drive By you should probabbly use those areas too. Alternatively you can park at the Lode and walk in. It would be a long walk from there to Drive-By and Marley, but not so bad for the Sore Heel areas.
Oil Crack, In-Between, and Arena areas are still closed.
Of course you can always check out the RRGCC's site for the latest up to date PMRP info ( www.rrgcc.org/phpBB2/index.php )

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
