Should the route developer's name be in the route description?

I didn't read any of the other posts. I'm just killing time while waiting on a query to run.

If you can't lead it then your name is moot. When in the history of climbing has anyone ever listed the bolter in a guidebook other than when that person was also the FA? Never. Its a stupid idea.

When writing the descriptions for the routes at Muir Valley we have tried to stay with the tradition that is the most common. I've climbed all over this country and a few others and I've noticed that in my HUGE collection of guidebooks that there is rarely mention of the people who equipped the routes under the actual route descriptions. A brief note (or sometimes a few pages) in the introduction seems to be the normal practice (this is true at the Red and the New).

SCIN- great story about Blankitty blank. Too bad, if the info is lost and Dave is listed as FA everyone will assume Dave bolted it, not John.

and Squeeze- you should work on reading comprehension- what I said was the developer and the FA get credit (1 or 2 people) - not all their buddies.

Fame and glory- yea lots of that associated with route development (note sarcasim)
Actually, if you list the developers people are held accountable for their actions- bolt a crappy line and you'll hear about it!!!! Bolt a good line- silence

Man you should pay attention. It takes a lot to get Artsay to hack on you.

I think most of you have good intentions here. Going to the trouble of scouting, cleaning ,paying for, bolting and then phew, sending a route is rewarding yet, very demanding. A labor of love of course. I don't think it's egotistical for someone to get mentioned for equipping a route. If routes are put up properly with good hardware a positive service has been done and usually people who put up good lines are consistent. Add the FA when it gets done by if it is by someone else, just a little extra text for histories sake.

Good point. I think what I've decided to do is just to insert the name of the person who bolted a route only if it is different from the FA. I just didn't want all of this duplicated information in 99% of the route listings.

So, if anyone could help out, please let me know if you know of any routes in the current online guide that were FA'd by someone different than the person who bolted the route.

Thanks!
