I want a long one

I have always depended on using others' stick clips, but I want one for myself. Where is a good place to get a good long one? I've looked online at Mountain Tools and Mountain Gear, but the clips they are selling come to a point, and I think I want one that's threaded so I can use a Squid. Any comments on whether the Squids are good or not? I've seen them in action and they look effective. A climber at Great Wall showed me how they could be used to unclip a draw.

poles- go to lowe's paint department.Squids are ok,they took some practice but work.

Home Depot has all you need. Pole, clip, and duct tape. I can't tell you much about the Squid since I've never seen one.

I know Wes has one that he uses and apparently likes (since he keeps using it). Just so you know that if you get the longest pole you can find at Home Depot/Lowes and a squid you're looking at about a $60+ rig. Though it should last you a long time.

Squids ROCK! I have one and love it. It's a great conversation piece at the crag too. Just make sure you get a stiff paint pole (uh, huh huh....I said 'stiff pole') because the squid relies a bit on the sturdiness of the pole and it's ability to transmit torque to use it effectively.

I've always used a tent pole stick clip. The advantage is that they are really long, lightweight, and folds down to fit on the side pouch of a daypack (best to bring along aboard a plane on those far away climbing trips!). The disadvantage is that they're not compatible with squids.

Knock on wood. I've never used a stick clip. Have climbed some routes where it probably would have been wise to use one though.

ditto what runt said, golf ball retriever's are great, they are cheap, quite long/light and can be rigged to use whatever you want on top and they telescope down to a fairly short length. I've been using the same one for about 10 years so they hold up well (keep them out of the sand if you can though). Prior to that I used tent poles and they suck a lot for this, as they are too flexible to be much help unless you are looking for a good pump before you start the climb.
