Memorial Service for John - your help needed

Post by Guest »

I have been asked to remind everyone who is attending the Memorial Service for John on Saturday night to plan ahead and bring food/drinks to share. John and Tina have a large family who will be in attendance - around 30 people - and it will be lovely if we all feed them dinner, as well as feed each other. So please, everyone, do what you can and bring a dish to share for dinner. If you guys need ideas for what to bring, of course you can feel free to discuss them in this thread. Thanks very much.

Also, Climbhigh is bringing chairs for John and Tina's family. Please remember to bring a camp chair for yourself if you would like a comfortable seat. If you have more to share, I'm sure that would be helpful as well. Jeff and Gretchen are bringing candles, but if you can bring a few of those, too, please do. Don't forget to carpool over.

This is going to be a beautiful night and a wonderful way to remember John!

I've got 80 candles.
If you have any around the house, bring your own with you.

What are we doing as far as plates/cups/utensils/napkins? I can bring some but not sure how many I have. Dunno if there are trash receptacles available at Torrent but I can also bring trash bags.

I am blown away by the generosity of our climbing community. It looks like we are mostly covered for food. Here is what we have so far (I will keep updating this post with new information):

- Pizzas, vegetarian salad, bread sticks and drinks - donated by Miguel and Susan Ventura
- Plates/cups/utensils/napkins & Meat - donated by Mark and Kathy Meyers
- Buns - donated by ToddC
- Baked goods - donated by Tom Kwasny
- Cakes - donated by Jerry Hyden
- Chips and salsa, trash bags, eating utensils - donated by Karla and Jared
- Candles - donated by Jeff and Theresa
- Chairs for John's family - provided by Matt Tackett
- Cookie-dough brownies - donated and baked from scratch by Stephanie Meadows

THANK YOU ALL, SO MUCH!

Climbers you can still bring:
- Side dishes
- Appetizers
- Desserts
- (non-alcholic) Drinks
- kid-friendly food
- more candles, lighters/matches
- chairs

Note:
if you want to drink alcohol at this service, Kathy Meyers has told me that you may bring your own and do so discreetly. There will be a band playing at Mark's Mountain BBQ later that night (unrelated event), and if you decide to go over there after John's service, please remember that it is illegal to bring your own alcoholic beverages to the BBQ.

Thanks, Sandy. Also, Gretchen made a post on the RRGCC site requesting volunteers to help with set up, etc.

We could use help transporting food from Miguel's over to Torrent Falls, also. Who can help with this and help set up before the service? Everyone riding in my car is automatically volunteered. :D

What time do you need volunteers there?

I'm not sure. The service starts at 6 pm, so I would want to start running food over by 5 pm at the latest.

VOLUNTEERS:

Please be at Torrent Falls to help set up at 5 pm Saturday. Gretchen will need and appreciate your help. Remember, volunteers need to carpool just like everyone else.

Those of you who will be helping me transport food from Miguel's to Torrent, please be at Miguel's by 4:30 or 4:45 pm. We will head over to Torrent right around 5 pm, and we can help set out food and do whatever else needs to be done. We may need another car, along with mine, so if anyone has riders and space for food, please let me know and meet us at Miguel's.

Thanks!
