My condolences to John's family and to Rhino as well...

When we heard of the sad news from Ray and Michelle yesterday at Muir, Michelle said, "Climb for Johnny." We were close to calling it a day and were really tired, but found the inspiration from Johnny to put up another sport route.

You will forever be THE MAN, Johnny! Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm glad I had the honor of meeting and talking to him this summer... he pushed me to lead a new 11 at the Playground. Thanks Johnny... you'll be missed.

I am in total shock. Although I am no longer
involved in climbing as much as I used to be,
John and Tina and all the old crowd will always
remain in my heart as true friends.

It has often been said that the only true trust is
letting someone belay you, and I would place
my life in John's hand anytime.

His contributions to climbing in the gorge are
unparalled, and I will miss him and his guidance.

Condolences to his entire family and all his climbing
family also.

BRONAUGH, John H., 44, husband of Christina "Tina" Bronaugh, a plaintiff attorney died Sat., Aug. 21, 2004. Born in Louisville, he was the son of Ann Hutchcraft Bronaugh, Lexington, and the late John Welch Bronaugh. He was a 1991 graduate of Bourbon County High School. A graduate of Colorado State University with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and also graduate of the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where he majored in guitar and the University of Kentucky Law School. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and American Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Bronaugh was an avid rock climber and member of Red River Gorge Climbers Coalition and authored a guide book on rock climbing. In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Alexander Gregory Feezel Yeakley and Jesse Christian Bronaugh; a sister, Ann Williams Bronaugh (Glen Ross) Andrews, Nashville, TN; a brother, Whitcomb Meade (Louise Cooper) Bronaugh, Eugene, Oregon; uncle Winn Varnon Hutchcraft, Paris, KY; two nephews, Benjamin John-Whitcomb Andrews and Gavin Sharpley Bronaugh; and he was a special friend to many people. Memorial services are being planned. Friends may call 4-8 pm Wed. at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland. Memorials to Red River Gorge Climbers Coalition. P.O. Box 22156, Lexington, KY, 40522-2156.

We should have more information posted today announcing the time and location of his memorial service. It will be someplace in the Gorge Saturday night. Tina has asked that it be a celebration of his life, rather than a memorial of his death.

blessings to all. my heart breaks for Tina, Alex, little Jesse, Ryan, and all of us who were in any way affected by this man and his passion for life. be well.

the writer Anne Lammot says her favorite prayers are "thank you thank you thank you" and "help me help me help me". Today I offer up both of those for John.

Johnny inspired me to do more for the community. We all have busy lives, but he found the time to focus on what’s really important. My heart goes out to Johnny’s family

Johnny,

Thanks for the thrill you gave me on Kampsight before the retro-bolt. I will never forget that lead. And Whiteout, my favorite trad 8 at the Red.
