New to Kentucky, looking for people to climb with

Post by pawilkes »

I am moving to Louisville on the 12th of August and am looking for people to climb with. I'm planning to climb at RockSport a couple times a week and then at the Red on weekends that I'm not paddling. I have been climbing for about 4 1/2 years but recently I haven't been climbing as much resently so I probably climb around 5.10+/5.11-. I was thinking about going to the Red next weekend, is it way to hot in August? Thanks for your help
phil

edit note: it seems that it is impossible to write the word ... well, i can't write it because it (the server or something) will change it to Nude. the word Nude in the topic should be a three letter N word suggest that i will be shortly arriving in the area (or, in another context, something you just got is N*W). hopefully this rant clarifies things and doesn't make me look like a spaz you wouldn't want to climb with...
and i while i think its kind of funny but no, i don't climb nude

well, if it's too hot you can always climb nude...

We have been having unseasonably cool weather, so now is the perfect time to climb. There are quite a few people on this board who usually take August off. I did last year but not this year!

Phil,

There are usually a pretty good crowd on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It gets going around 6:30 with the regulars.

Welcome to Louisville, I'm sure you'll find lots of folks to climb with.

Geoff-
Thanks, that was the kind of information I was hoping to get about the gym. I have climbed at a few gyms over the years and it usually comes down to finding out when the usuals come in and meeting them. thanks again for the beta.

what's the problem?

Phil,

There's also a good climbing scene at Hesters in southern Louisville. It has more bouldering than sport climbing and is a bit smaller than Rocksport.

thanks for the advice and offers. i am pretty close to RockSport so i went and got a membership there the other day. i am planning on trying to get out there tuesdays and thursdays so if you see a new guy there with longer curly hair feel free to introduce yourself. and if anyone needs someone to go to the red with this weekend i am game for that.
