Drew - I *think* I know who you are. I only know one Drew from the gym so I can only assume you're him (??).
It's been so difficult trying to think about who is missing out on this thing. We all have been trying extremely hard to get folks' names and numbers around but the sad thing is that a lot of us just know each other from the gym and/or climbing at the Red and don't have numbers or even email addresses for each other (even folks we've seen around for years!). Getting in touch with folks we thought might like to be included in this has been extremely difficult if not impossible.
If you're the Drew I'm thinking of, please send me an email or something and I would love to keep you up to speed with this thing. If and when the time comes that we feel it's ready to be opened up for guests, I would be honored to have you as my guest. But until then, there ain't gonna be NO trainin' for any of us until this thing is built.
And by the way, we are doing this thing legally with liability insurance and everything.

You know, if this co-op designed a waiver it wouldn't need worry about being sued. Sure, a case could always goto court but it wouldn't hold up water with the persons signature.
Anyhow, mcrib why is it that your unhappy not being able to be apart of the local bouldering co-gossip? Start your own. Lexington is too big of a town to only have one of something...

unfortunately, waivers aren't bulletproof. (and most of the time they're fairly worthless)andy_lemon wrote:You know, if this co-op designed a waiver it wouldn't need worry about being sued. Sure, a case could always goto court but it wouldn't hold up water with the persons signature.
as it was explained to me, a good lawyer need only show that the person who signed it didn't have that particular scenario in their frame of mind at the time of signing.
Waivers don't hold much weight at all in court and they certainly don't keep you from being sued and having to pay thousands and thousands in lawyer's fees. If someone gets hurt, all that has to be proven is that someone was neglegent, and that could be by simply not screwing a hold in tight enough.
We're trying to do a really good thing here and taking every precaution. I don't understand why so many folks are trying to bring it down before it's even begun. All we're trying to do is boulder and spending a lot of time and money creating something for future climbers in the process.
I challenge folks to just bite their tongue about this thing until it's built. Wait until you have a *real* problem with it. All this is just unwarranted negative speculation.

Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.
Waivers are not really worth the paper that they are printed on. Unfortunately, they are a necessity because lack of a waiver these days would automatically leave us open for suit.
I can understand why people are upset about certain things with the coop. If I weren't a part of it, I would feel very left out. Unfortunately, we really need to keep this limited right now. We are in such a preliminary stage. We "might" have a space, we don't have a name, and there are so many concerns to address real soon. Anyway, it's a lot of work even with 25 people pitching in.

Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

Drew-
You are welcome to have all my holds that were previously at my place on Transy and then at the crackhouse on High Street. There were numerous Pusher, Voodoo, Nicros, Entreprise, and wooden holds. Actually, those Entreprise holds technically belong to the Snyd, and the wooden ones to Hugh and Neal. Also, grab about 5 sheets of paneling while you are at it.
I suppose the lesson learned here is to do a better job keeping things quiet. So now not only are there secret cliffs, but also in a sense "secret" bouldering walls.
Rob
P.S. Apparently I've got a really good gym just a few blocks from my place in Atlanta....doesn't nearly make up for the red within 1.5 hours though...
