Climber Survey

Post by Yasmeen »

Hey everyone. There is a group of climbers getting together to try to secure climbing on Kentucky State Park land, and we're putting a survey up to get a little feedback. If you'd like to participate, please fill it out and take it seriously. Thanks in advance!

If you want to see a big irony here, there is a picture of Torrent Falls Climbing Adventure Park on the front page of the Tourism Development Cabinet website (http://tourism.ky.gov/). State Parks are under this Cabinet. We had the same thing going on in Ohio. They had a picture of ice climbing, presumably in Hocking Hills, on the State Parks website even though ice climbing isn't allowed.

On a similar note, the Wisconsin Tourism thingy used to have some quote about 'rapelling down 500' granite cliffs!'. In case you were wondering, there are no "500' granite cliffs" in Wisconsin.

Someone in their marketing department understands the appeal of climbing - this sort of survey is a good way to leverage that appeal to influence the land managers.

But from what I've heard about the current head of Natural Bridge, it sounds like he's got a "climbing over my dead body" attitude. Someone needs to propose to the appropriate KY department that he gets a 'promotion' to somewhere else.

Maybe a 'camel's nose' proposal needs to be made - like re-opening Pocket Wall?

Sorry young un, when I first read your message I didn't see the last part. I guess you edited it.
I should have directed it to dhoyne.
At any rate, neither one of you seem to understand that the FS has nothing to do with what happens on Ky state park property.
  back at ya. :)
