Lynee, you are mistaken. If they were cool, they lied about where they were from.

They sounded like a herd coming up the trail, some couldnt even folow the trail, they ended up at Cussin Crack. They were all nice enough but they took over every route under 5.7. A couple of them were Indiana boys.We had fun on Snake and Serpent.Cool face.

anyway the weekend was absolutely beautiful. hit solar collector on saturday and funk rock on sunday. the red is so good when the weather is good.

i can't wait to get back. hopefully the weather the weekend of the party will be good. maybe we can do another climbkentucky day at the crag and be the 15+ person group taking over a cliff.

Hey everyone, Hottie POA here,
OK time to set the record straight. There were 17 of us from Iowa State University. Yes, the university subsidized our trip, gear and all that. We are all members of the Mountaineering and Climbing Club at school.
This was our Thanksgiving trip. A 15 passenger van and a Saturn packed to the gills is what made the 12 hour trip from Ames, IA.
Yes, Lynne hit on me, (hey, babe, how you doin? Miss me? ) Perhaps if we would have had more time and I wasnt busy cleaning routes then we could have had some fun... The newbies on the trip couldnt have done it.
Sorry if we took up the whole face, we are a friendly lot, anyone could have gotten on our ropes. Its all good.
Merrick is the man. One hell of a guy to sit around a fire w/ and shoot the poop.
I'm done at ISU in a couple of weeks and then I start a job with Sprint in KC. I'm already planning my next trip to the Red. It will also become a regular trip for the club as well, once every few yrs. The club was wowwed by it all. Most of us rarely get to see rock like that. We are used to lime stone.
Anyother quetions? You know how to reach me...

ahem! Who hit on who? My thoughtful climbing partners decided that I needed more sex in order to get my lead head on straighter. As I recall you were eavesdropping on the conversation and offered!!

That was too funny.

And yeah, Merrick is the man. There is a thread around here "Merrick is gay." I think Gretchen meant to type "Merrick is god" but she was drunk.

Trickster, there are a couple of reasons why folks groan when large groups show up at the crags. And no its not a 'locals only' type attitude.

Climbing in large groups is fun, no doubt about it, but has negative effects. Many of the crags in the RRG aren't able to hold large groups of folks spread out along the base. When this happens people fan out trampling vegitation and causing errosion (Fortress is a good example of this). This impact is putting climbing in the RRG in jeopardy in the eyes of the US Forest Service, not bolts or chalk, but cultural and biological resources threaten clibming here. Then there are the noise and open route issues, but those are obvious. And as you said others were welcome to hop on your group's ropes.

Not trying to get all preachy on ya, just letting you know what some of the access issues we face here in the RRG. I'd respond this way to any large guided or college outing group. While it might not be the easiest thing to do, breaking up into smaller groups and spreading out to different crags is key. Smaller groups have less impact on the land and allow everyone to get more climbing in too. Check out www.rrgcc.org for more info.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

man you are messing with my self esteem gretchen. some days I am like, "Gretchen really likes me" and i feel great and am really productive and virle. other days I am like, "Gretchen thinks I am gay" and i sleep in late, feel weak and sickly and drown my sorrows in booze and pain killers.

I need some stability.......i need to believe in myself.
