We just returned from five days of climbing in the Red and discovered this post, which puzzles us. We have yet to talk to Tim about any such request, on the offhand chance it was not made tongue in cheek.
Let's clarify our intentions:
1. Liz and I are the sole owners of Muir Valley, LLC. No banks, venture capitalists, stockholders, dues payers, or anyone else share in this ownership. What I write here is the bottom line.
2. We have no intention of turning this place into any kind of commercial venture. We are very much enjoying freely sharing this little piece of Kentucky with the climbing community and hope to do so indefinitely.
3. There is already one very nice via Ferrata in Kentucky owned by the Meyers. There will be NO via Ferrata in Muir Valley. And, there will be no climbing "ventures" of any kind for which money will be charged. Nor, will there be any sport rappelling allowed. Responsible, skilled rock climbers are welcome after submitting legal releases and having them accepted.
4. The routes being set in the Valley are similar to trad and sport routes currently found elsewhere in the Red. Approach trails are also being established at this time. Although Tim, Mike, Jared, Karla, JJ, Rob, and others have done a remarkable amount of work in only a few months, we all realize that it will take several years for the Valley to mature into a first rate climbing area. Right now, it is a diamond in the rough.
5. The routes are being put up as safely as can be practically done. The hardware used meets, and in most cases exceeds, the hardware standards set forth by RRGCC and other climber groups. Climbing is still deadly dangerous and should be undertaken with that foremost in mind. You may be the best climber with the best equipment and training pulling on a chunk of Corbin Sandstone that, after 10 million years, decides to break away at that moment.
6. As for the suggestion that Muir Valley might pose some kind of threat to RRGCC's crags, our opinion is that these two climbing areas will compliment each other and together will bring even more climbers to this region. We are members of RRGCC and have no axe to grind with this organizaton.
7. Everyone we meet these days in the Red asks if the rumor is true that more cliffs have been added to Muir Valley. Although we have tried to keep this quiet to avoid chaos, the cat is obviously out of the bag. It is true that Muir Valley has more than doubled in size with our purchase of the remainder of the Lower Smokey Fork Creek Valley system to the north. However, I cannot overstate the importance of visitors climbing ONLY in the area south of the Indy Wall in the Tantroft Branch Hollow at this time. This is the area shown in green on the original Muir Valley map. As new areas are developed and opened, they will be announced on our website.
8. If you wish to set up a route and have significant experience doing so, contact me for permission and route setting guidelines.
We hope that clarifies and updates our intentions. Heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed to the development of Muir Valley.

Aw geezer, I'm sorry to say but you were the butt of a cruel and nasty joke.
Johnny and Ryan were just trying to exhibit how untrue rumors (lies) are started. You would've had to have read this other thread to have seen the way it unfolded: http://www.redriverclimbing.com/viewtop ... 06&start=0
You all are doing an amazing thing for the climbing community. Thanks so much again and again and again and again and......
