Galyan's closing.
Galyan's closing.
Dammit, Dick's Sporting Goods bought out Galyans. Dick's doesn't carry any climbing gear, has shitty camping gear, and no climbing wall.

The one aisle of overpriced climbing gear at Galyans (except for Fixe hangers) is almost the same as not carrying any climbing gear.
Is Dick's really going to take down every single wall on every Galyan's store? I'm not so sure about that...... If anything, all the Galyans will probably just be in business under a different banner. Although there is the conflict of having two stores within 50 feet of each other...

Yeah, not quite sure why they would put up a brand new building, then buy the one a block away from it.squeezindlemmon wrote: Although there is the conflict of having two stores within 50 feet of each other...
I'm not sure of their long term plans yet, but it mentioned in the Indy Star:
"Dick's executives expect the Galyans names will come off its 47 stores by mid-2005, months after the merger's expected completion in October. It wasn't clear Monday how many stores would be closed where the two retailers compete in close proximity, as they do in three Indianapolis-area communities, or how many jobs will be eliminated."
Oh hey, good news:
"Dick's intends to weed out Galyans lifestyle items, such as sun dresses, but keep the Galyans rock-climbing walls as it focuses on sporting goods, he said."

They make $$$ buying out the debt of losers, than transferring that same debt at a better rate to others (consumers, another company, shareholders, etc.)pianomahnn wrote:What the hell is with companies selling themselves to other companies?
Fucking pansies.
I have nothing against big box retailers and thier penial-implant wars. I just wish the little shops could hold ground during the upcoming outdoor retail shakeups in the next decade.....
Many will not "close", but will be converted....it is one way for Dick's to get into marketplaces, such as Las Vegas, where they do not et have a toe-hold yet. They buy is at deflated prices by taking on the debt of a distressed retailer.
Good locations out there......
