Layout Questions

Post by ray »

Hey everyone,

I'm not too happy with the way I have the mini-guides oriented on the main page. I've tried so many things but I just can't find a way that I like. I can easily pump out a pdf for every single wall in the gorge but I don't know how best to display them.

I can't do it right now though because I would have so many links to the pdf files on the main page that it would look like crap.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can allow people to select mini-guides for each crag?

Also, I can easily dump out a whole guidebook in pdf format. Do you think this would be of any use to anyone? I just can't imagine someone printing out the whole guide from their computers.

You'd be suprised what people will do ray.

I would think that a zipped pdf for download of the entire guide book would be a good idea, maybe for a region as well. A link to the mini guides for each crag would be great on that particular crags page (alread done if I remember correctly). A note on the home page for a while saying that the mini guides are now on each crags page should suffice.

Keep the map links on the main page, those are very handy.

I would make the miniguides even smaller, but here's what I'd look for:
1. Complete Guide.
2. Able to view full details of each crag at will.
3. Able to print full guide at will.
4. When looking at a particular crag, it would also be nice to simply have a link to print a tiny miniguide for that same particular crag.

The idea here is to be able to accommodate many different wishes all at once. Hope this helps.
! Enough with all that detestation ALREADY !

Hey, maybe just leave the 5 or so most popular on the front page, and then a link to where you can get the others. And, a full guide PDF would be cool, since then you could print any part of it you wanted, without having to get the specific pdf of the crag you want to hit the next day.

I'd print the full guide! Better yet I'd just put it on my PDA.

Dude, use a drop down menu... I think the shit is dhtml and is called a quicklink. <--DOH!? CLIMBING STUCK ON THE BRAIN. Scratch that, I think it is called a quicksearch.

OR... my brotha, you could switch places with the miniguides box and the picture box. Then have the miniguides box stacked in two columns vertically. BRILLIANT!

The full guide would be sweet... you could just print out where you're going for the day/weekend, but if you change your mind, you can always look at more on a laptop or something.

You should see the guidebook that I printed for J-Rock.... it has all the crags shown online and it is in a binder that's 3" thick!!! It would have been nice if it's already in pdf so I didn't have to do the awful-time-consuming-task of copy and paste.

Anyway, I think the drop down menu would work well... lesser space taken up on the website.

I'd like to see more maps in the mini-guides as long as there's no copyright problems. Or how about a pdf of just maps since you can already download the entire guidebook in a single file for PDA viewing?

I'm still trying to get the .pdf files to work/properly display (read fit the screen) on my PDA using Adobe for pocket PC. I think the file might need to be saved on a more current version of Adobe, or maybe even specific to the PDA format. I don't know, but that's my ideal...have the whole guidbook available whenever, whereever.
