Sport climbing at/near Rumbling Bald

Post by ender_xx »

Gonna be staying near Rumbling Bald next weekend. Went there years ago and i remember a few bolted lines - are there any good online guides? What about sport routes at Looking Glass or other areas around the Ashville? Any beta would be great

My guidebook sez Looking Glass is all trad. But there is sport at Rumbling bald. Bouldering too if you can trust wes ;) Check out rc.com ( http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/list ... AreaID=384 ) for online and borrow someones copy of Lambert and Shull's Selected Climbs in North Carolina for more info.
Screw you guys. I'm going bowling.

Cool, thanks. Looks like there's about 5 sport routes at the Bald, according to RC.com. Should be enough for a couple days. I guess i can always toprope some cracks if i get too terribly bored. The bouldering there is definately awesome, though. It alone is worth the trip.

 You can't go to Rumbling Bald and climb sport routes!!!! That's sacrilegious!!!

IF you climb trad, Fruit Loops and all those 'cereal' routes are a must!

When are you climbing there? Right about now is the worst time to climb in NC... there are some caves though that can provide natural AC....

Bring a trad rack and a crash pad too! Great rock there.

well, i just got back and it wasn't too terribly hot - felt cooler than The Red, but yeah theres not much in the way of sport - mostly blank looking slabs. I did some easy slab thing, but mostly just hiked around and wished i had a trad rack. Great bouldering though.
