Forest service road 9

Post by The Pirate »

Was going to Purple Valley Sunday and saw that the forest service road 09 was closed. The sign said that the road had washed out , and that the road was unstable in places. This will cause lot's of access issues if not repaired. Hope it will be opened soon

I am seriously bummed. The lower gorge is my favorite playground and now its gone for who knows how long, till they get the road fixed. Heads up: some climbers went back there anyway and ended up with an 100 dollar fine.

From the DBNF website:

Stanton Ranger District - 606-663-2852

The bison have been relocated due to flooding
Forest Service Road 9 leading to Indian Creek is closed
State Route 77 is down to one lane and should be restricted to local travel only. Visitors travelling to the Gladie Historic Site should travel the Mountain Parkway to the Beattyville Exit - Exit 40. Turn right onto KY 15 (follow signs to Red River Gorge) and travel about one mile to the Pine Ridge area. Turn right onto KY 715 and travel through the Gorge to the Gladie Center, located on the left.

Man that section of road just before the iron bridge washed out a couple of years ago.
Kinda un-nerving when you drive past, look down, and see just how far down the river is.

Jen - I'll go anytime during the week - I can usually cut loose from work around 7pm and stay till like 830. There is tons of traversing you can do without a partner too if you wanna stay later than me...plus, I don't have a rope with me this week, left it at the red. But yasmeen might be there Thursday.....be our rope biotch yas?
Anyway - I'll PM ya Jen with more details.
