ok, this is a silly question, but with these types of jobs, what do people do for health insurance?

Health insurance is unfortunately a luxury I haven't been able to afford for a long time. I just hope and pray (knock on some wood) that I don't get sick or hurt.

My ranch does help pay for insurance, but you have to get your own policy and due to some previous health problems it is very difficult to find anything I could afford, even with their help.

superjen, some jobs do provide health insurance while on the job... but seasonal work by and large doesn't come with that. You can use COBRA if you leave work and plan on returning to work in short order, or mabe you can save up $3,000 or so locked away as your personal "policy" to pay for some expenses as they come up... sure it won't cover severe stuff, but it'd pay for a broken leg, and easily for anti-biotics or stitches.

as an on topic note... City of Rocks is awesome. Our campsite had a boulder which was also a natural arch. Woohooo.

you know how long it is going to take me to pay off credit cards, pay off my car, and then save $3000? I am gonna be an old woman by then!! haha

If health insurance is a necessity for you, seasonal work might not be for you, but if it isn't then it is a great way to live. It has its hassles like moving a couple times of year and stuff, but that is part of the fun too.

I get restless if I'm not traveling...after spending more than one weekend at home I'm itching to get out of town!

I decided that if I wait until I have everything paid off (student loan, credit card, car, etc...) to do what I want, I will never get to do it, so I just had to buck up, make sacrifices and go!

If you can stand the kids these days - teaching is a good job for taking summers off. I climb etc. all summer until mid-august - then....

I'm old (but no major prev. probs.) and have Blue Cross, which I pay myself. It's around $100/mo. and I don't have the cheapest one. I believe it's actually a little less being male, but that comes out in the wash w/ car insurance.
