Gretchen, I figured it out when all that work was done to speed up the archaeological dig and one person though it was funny to risk it all and yank the FS chain by writing a post about chipping.
Nothing has changed.
You can't tell people to climb or not climb over property you don't own, and that's not what they want to hear so they whine about not being able to understand something as simple as fucking property rights.
You might be able to beat the forest service, you might be able to be the state park, you might be able to beat the oil company, but you will not beat the very people you are trying to save from the screwing the above want to give them. Ignorance is a self fulfilling prophecy.

You've done your bit. You've done way more than your bit. Frankly, I don't know how Johnny or Shannon puts up with these morons, but I do know this. You have an awesome mind, unique in my experience, and this is obviously torquing you. Let them live with the consequences of their own ignorance for a while. Smell the roses that your efforts deserve.
You can continue to fight it, or you can walk away knowing you've done a great job, and I'll respect you either way, as will those few who are carrying the rest. From what Johnny said, you can walk out and in on the decision of those who always have supported you so it isn't a committing move.
But this thing I know, and you aren't going to change it. People who do not subscribe to reality are not going to change. Either you have to be their mom too, with the infinite patience that demands, or else decide it's not where you want to be anymore. It may be like ripping a part of you out and leaving it laying on the floor, but the bottom line is that if you don't have the patience to help the weak ones create their false reality, then you aren't going to be happy straddling the fence. It is an either or deal. Either way, you're good by me.
As for the rest of you morons, and you know exactly who you are, do be sure and write another 15 pages explaining from the very depths of your experience why I am wrong, etc. etc. etc and I will make every effort to return in six to twelve month to absorb your wisdom.
