We were climbing today at a busy crag and this dog kept barking. I'm not sure if it was tied up or not but I would hear the dog bark 10 barks and the owner say, "No. You're a bad, bad dog". This continued for 45 minutes and then we left and went somewhere else because the barking just drove me crazy.
We have two dogs and luckily they don't bark. We also discipline them and wouldn't allow them to act like this. I just wanted to duck tape that dog's muzzle shut. I love dogs but that barking was just killing my concentration while both belaying and climbing. Has anyone ever experienced this before?
Bad Dog
I have. I realize that there are certain breeds that aren't prone to barking. Artsay, you and I are lucky with Dakota and Maizy in that they just don't bark much. Others do, especially when tied up. It sucks to have someone's dog barking their head off while your trying to climb or belay. Unfortunately, it's also a learning curve.
A mutual friend of yours and mine has a young male dog who is prone to barking when strange people come to the crag. Also, when two other dogs are playing and he is chained up. She's teaching him not to. But there's a learning curve b/c of his breed. It sucks. But when we climb, I'm prepared for it so it's not as big a deal.
Anyway, when you aren't prepared for it, it sucks ass. It breaks your concentration and is really frustrating...grr. Also, if I thought Dakota annoyed people at the cliff then I wouldn't bring her.

Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.
