Where would you go?

Post by TradMike »

If you had some frequent flyer miles that were going to expire and only have a three-day weekend where would you go to climb?

I'll second the motion to go to Vegas.

SLC is a freakin' smorgasboard. With only a three day weekend, you want easy-in, easy-out. You can fly in and climb the same day and conversely climb and fly out on the same day. No matter what you're looking for (except big wall) SLC has it. Sport limestone? Yeup. Trad, multi-pitch granite? Yeup. Freaky cobblestone, overhanging sport? Yeup. Varied, world class bouldering? Yeup. Cool on a hot day? Uh huh. Warm on a cold day? Yessiree. Pretty alpine meadows? Si! Arid desert climbing? Mais, oui! (SLC climbers are lucky bastards)

Then again, Vegas has more strippers.

Vedauwoo. Fly into Denver, drive two hours, and you are set. Bouldering, sport, trad. Free camping. No "front range attitude".

You could still do Hueco as well, although it might be a bit hot down there. Fly into El Paso.

SLC puts you in the middle of a ton of rock for sure.

The valley isn't to far from an airport.

Squamish would be a nice place to go as well. Fly into Vancover or Seattle.

Lots of places for sure.
