Haycock Mtn.

Post by Andrew »

I went climbing at Haycock Mtn. near Philly on Saturday, and it was really good. I definitly suggest anyone who is in the area to check out any of the spots that have Triassic Diabase boulders. The quality of rock and the quality of the problems was excellent, and Haycock Mtn. has alot of problems too. Unfortunatly its a pain in the ass to get around and find the problems, if it wasn't for that it would be a kick ass place.

yea man, that place does kick some major booty. are you sure that stuff is diabase? it just is weird that you would have dike swarms that cover such a large area. the timing was right for that to happen, but it still seems weird to me. i guess i'd have to look at a map.

diabase is a fine-grained gabbro (meaning composed primarily of a variety of the mineral groups pyroxene and feldspar) that occurs as dikes (sheet-like intrusions). in this case it was associated with the breaking away of africa from north america during the triassic/jurassic periods (~200 million years ago).

actually, i think you're right andrew...diabase boulders.

What are you talking about Ho? I said you are a dirty boy. I meant that you spent the weekend on a field trip and probably were digging up your rocks and shit and got dirty. Geez, guy, easy on the sexual enuendo. You seeing a counselor for that? If not, get therapy. Dude is not getting any...
