Break-ins
It is 8:50 this (Saturday) evening and Andrew just called. He was at the Lode. 3 cars were broken into. He stripped his ( actually his sister's )and left it unlocked. Not much to take from a 1992 Custom Cruiser. Has anyone filed a complaint with the Kentucky State Police about the relative lack of attention this is getting locally? Any other ideas?

The police dont do anything...this has been happening for years. It probably is the locals as there have also been these incidents with backpackers who park in the gorge overnight. (You have to buy overnight passes to park overnight in the gorge and i read an article by some guy who found out that when you bought a pass, the theif knew just where to find the cars)
in the past, the theifs put a screwdriver in the locks and popped em out, if that didnt work they just break a window. I had several friends cars get broken in to at the lode (left mine at miguels that day). We all talked to the police...who did nothing.

The south will rise again!
The best advice is to leave nothing in your car and leave it unlocked. I suspect vandalism may be the next step, though, if these thieves stop getting 'rewarded' for their efforts. WTF is wrong with people?
Perhaps climbers need to start watching vehicles in problem areas (out of view, of course), catch these creeps, and dish out some vigilante justice? Or maybe some smart entrepeneur will start running a shuttle service to the Lode and Roadside...

Well the thieves must have hit the top parking lot earlier in the day and the lower one where we were later on (between 6:30 and 7:30 PM). I agree with the leave your car empty and unlocked idea-- that's what we did and our car wasn't messed with. It sucked though to come back from a day of great climbing and see two cars that had been broken into and completely looted. Some people suck.
There's a notice up at Miguel's right now by the front door which'll hopefully help inform people.
In other news, I know that the people whose cars were broken into on Saturday did go to the police station for hours that night and file reports (I didn't get the details, though), though I'm not sure what will happen as a result of that.
Sandy-- we were considering the whole vigilante justice thing too, but I definitely wouldn't want to go head to head with these people. What if they've got guns and get pissed that someone's out there waiting for them and do something stupid? I don't want to be the next body they find. I wish we could get a cop to patrol the area or something. Spragwa? Any magic you can work here?

We prepared for the Lode today by completely emptying our vehicle. I had to choose one CD to listen to, clean all of my change out, remove my bass tube, and empty all the shit out of the back. We just left our doors open when we were climbing. It sucks having to do shit like that just to go climbing.
Yo Ray jack dynomite! Listen to my beat box! Bew ch ch pff BEW ch ch pfff! Sweet!
