Actually Mike you also have to check the State to which you are travelling to make sure that you can bring a firearm. Especially since the 22 was concealed. Do you have a CCDW?

Who cares if the little .22 is allowed or not...what we should be looking at is who sold automatic weapons to hillbillies.

For good information about gun laws, check out www.packing.org. They cover the laws for each state and which states accept CCW permits from other states.

Gotcha...pays to read through the thread (and look at the links) before ya post. Guess if you ever see a couple of guys walking around with firewood you should run. Still need a motive before I'd worry too much. Whatcha all think? Drugs? I'll go with that, he was probabbly holding out on some money and Lortab or Oxy.

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Kentucky is fine with an Ohioan bringing a short gun or long gun into the state limits. Like I said just don’t conceal the weapon or transport improperly and you are fine. I don’t conceal any guns. I don’t have a license to do so. The rangers within the national forest are also OK with it as long as it is not concealed. Not that I think it’s a good idea but you could go back to purple valley area and target shoot all day if you wanted. People do it all the time. The last time I camped back that way the party next to us had an AK-47 that they were target shooting with. They were cool hillbillies though. They were safe about it. I personally don’t take a gun when I go day climbing unless I am going to some obscure, deep woods area. In addition, we definitely have a serious amount of heat when we go camping in scary areas. I have had three bad experiences. One was at Military Wall, one was back at the camping area at the base of the hill going to Funk Rock and one was at Endless Wall in the New River Gorge. I already told the Military Wall experience. Back at Funk Rock we had a hillbilly shoot a .357 over our heads because we beat him, by a day, to HIS campsite and he though he should mess with us a little. We couldn’t see him but we knew it was shot our way. We played along by unloading three, fully loaded with high brass shells, pump shot guns at a target not his way but to let him know to quit fucking with us. He shut up after that. At the New River Gorge we repelled in our camping gear at a hard to get to area at Endless for a weekend of climbing. That night we had two odd people arrive around 11:00 PM and said they were lost and wanted to warm up by our fire and if we didn’t comply they would kill us! No lie! They were not friendly either. I am not saying that everyone should start carrying guns in the gorge but I dare you camp back by Funk Rock without one. Things have gotten a lot better in the past few years though. The early 90s in the gorge were scary. I have seen a torched car, countless broken car windows, pried open trunks, stolen cars, stolen climbing racks, scary drunk hillbillies, assault weapons, slashed tires, a car flipped over into the woods by human power, a wife beating that we stopped, and countless other offenses. I guess that is what you get for wanting to camp in the secluded areas. On a positive note, most of the time we have no problems and have a great time. I love America!

Kentucky law preempts several types of local firearms ordinances. In 1984, the state legislature enacted Ky. Rev. Stat. § 65.870, which states:
No city, county or urban-county government may occupy any part of the field of regulation of the transfer, ownership, possession, carrying or transportation of firearms, ammunition, or components of firearms or combination thereof.
