If you have $40 to drop on a bottle of booze, grab yourself some Blantons. You will not be dissapointed.
Today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

In case your wondering, if it doesn't come from Kentucky then it isn't bourbon.

Blanton's one of THE best single barrels.
Corner Creek is nice and mellow.
12 year Pappy Van Winkle is good.
As for cheap stuff, life is too short to drink cheap bourbon.

Alcohol might be cheaper in Kentucky, as the taxes are less than some states....like Ohio. That is until Gov Fletch modernizes the tax code, but that could be a while.

Most distilleries are in central Kentucky (depending on where you are coming from, are not really on the way to the Gorge). If you want to take a day and visit a few then Bardstown is a great stop. In September they have the Bourbon Festival...name says it all. Buffalo Trace is basically the old Ancient Age Distillery located in Frankfort. I think they give tours and have a little cafeteria where you can eat with the plant workers. Woodford Reserve is made at Labrot & Grahm in Woodford County. There is a great free tour that is not to be missed if you are in the Lexington area. The place is freakin' beautiful (what place isn't beautiful if it makes whiskey) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I like to stick my finger in the vat and taste the mash....mmmmmm mash. Anyway, not all distilleries offer tours so check before you go

Do a search on bourbon, this topic has been discussed around here several times.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

I love Jack Daniels barbque sauce...and I love Jack Daniels too.

cheap bourbon is definately not the way to go. I got a pint of Kodiak Jack last friday because i don't have that much money, so i was being cheap. That stuff is disgusting, even though i mixed it with two cans of coke. So good bourbon (and whisky) is well worth the money.

One night, while drinking "the good stuff" my friend and I did the math on drinking the crap bourbon, at 80 proof, vs. drinking the single barrel good stuff, at 100 proof. The math says if you get about the same amout of alcohol per dollar with the good stuff, plus you get the better taste. Esp. if you go with the Wild Turkey single barrel, "Rare Breed", that stuff is 108 proof!!
