So that day of the "Siege at Torrent" - how is that any different from any other day when I walk up there and find a herd of people? It's usually just a BUNCH of smaller groups who are there.

Man, part of what I cannot stand about climbing at crowded crags is that I HATE it when people talk to me while I am on a route. An occasional "good work" is okay but constant discussion while I'm heading up a route drives me wild. Also, if I'm leading at my limit DO NOT talk to my belayer. Mostly, I trust the people who belay me. Like Mia. If she's chatting while I'm on belay, I still know that I'm her top priority. But still, let me climb man.

in general i don't like to chat much while i'm belaying, unless it is a quick question or i interject something into another conversation, otherwise i pretty much just talk to my climber if needed.

what does drive me absolutely insane is when i'm trying desperately to hear my climber and there are heaps of people around chatting loudly as if they are in a bar or something. When someone is climbing and especially if they are cleaning an anchor please either shut up, or quiet down. communication between the belayer and climber is way more important than which club has the hottest chicks...

The difference to me is that when people climb in small groups they tend to occupy one route and then get off it (clean it) before getting on another. When you climb in a large group and put ropes up many routes or buddy up with others to occupy many routes then outsiders are obligated to either join your mahem or not climb those routes.

every year the Red gets more and more crowded so if you don't like crowds at the crags I hope you have access to those ultra super secrete crags, with the SR closed it's going to be even worse..

Spuzo, have you ever climbed at a crag when it was just you and your partner? Those are the some of the best climbing days I have ever had. But at the same time I get really psyched when I'm with a bunch of my buds at a crags, working on my hard projects and feeding off all that positive energy.

i hated climbing in large groups but that was all i knew for a while and then i started going out with just one or two other people and it is so much better. i actually get to climb, it is calm and peaceful and overall a more "natural" experience rather than one i can have in a gym.
