It bugs me. HOwever, I have been organizing a girl climb day where we plan on taking over Skybridge. So essentially, I'm a hypocrate. But then what else is new?
I'm with Ho. I'd love to ban climbers. I can't lie. I wish I could feel differently but I don't. Crowds suck and there's no way to get away from them at the Red unless you go to a Super Secret Crag bolted illegally on Forest Service property...or Terry's or Chris Martin's

there is a time and place for what? a time and place when YOU snap and decide its OK, and the rules no longer apply? get over yourself, and relax....dude, this is a climbing forum (yes, I threw "dude" in there for ultra cool effect)....don't take any of it seriously.....of course there are rules in climbing..you and I 100% agree on that one...people like to pretend there are no rules becasue it allows them to escape the mundane "ordinariness" of there everyday existence..they finally feel some control....and that's oK brah.....as long as the illusion keeps them motivated and happy, who are we to care?
as far as arguing for the sake of arguing...you'd never make it in politics...90% of the bullshit in DC is posturing.....whats the dif betweeen that and the "subtle spray" that happens every weekend at Miguel's???? isn't it all just vomit? or the idle surface conversations that happen at bars or at the crag?...life is basically a surface experience for the majority of people...work, sex, drugs, booze, money, climbing, education...all avenues of escape...
I agree that there should be "no rules" when it comes to climbing. That is what brought me to it in the first place. But there is also the idea of being nice and respectful of others. Taking over a crag to brag about it or just taking to many people with you is just rude. That is another, but one of the smallest, reasons why I started to climb trad. It blows goats to get to a climb or a place and realize that you may not be able to do anything you have been dreaming about for the past week.

Nicely put. I think it is rude and very inconsiderate of people to "take over" a crag. I, of course, am guilty of traveling and climbing in big groups, which I tend to do from time to time. But we don't hog routes. I think if someone is wanting to get on a route, then they should be able to. However, I'm not the kind of person to go up and ask if I can have my turn to climb a route that a bunch of people are on.
I really enjoy the days when I go to crags that either have no other groups there or a very few people. That way I don't have to wait and I tend to have a better time climbing.

Well, recently I've heard you say it several times and then I just heard it from the girl's climbing day shin dig that Spragwa mentioned. I've been hearing it a lot lately, actually. And I remember your pictures of one day at Torrent seemed like you all went there and intentionally put up as many routes as you could just to claim the wall. I think to climb with that intention and boast about is really rude to others and I'd be embarrassed to be a part of a group like that.
Crag seizures don't usually effect me, personally. I usually don't go to busy crags and if I do I'll warm up on and work the harder routes that don't see as much traffic (like rhunt said). I was just curious what others thought because, like I said, I've been hearing this a lot lately. And to me, climbing in groups isn't the same as the "crag takeover" mentality. Wicket Tribe and several others here seem very aware and considerate of others when they climb in groups.

Well in our girls day defense...it is all blustery bull about "taking over a crag." What, you thought we'd run top ropes on everything and throw everybody off? Bullshit. You know better than that. In my opinion locals aren't going to "take over the crag" unless some asshole shows up with an attitude and a sense of entitlement. Besides, you just didn't want to come because you wouldn't climb without Ray. LOL.
Matt actually ended up coming that day ahd he booked as soon as he could. The first part of the day he hid out in the woods. It was hysterical!
