I can't stand the terms boyfriend and girlfriend. They seem more appropriate for kids who are going steady and trading letter jackets - childish and insufficient somehow.
My husband and I weren't married until our first child was 4. Many adults live together or are in otherwise commited relationships, yet are not married. Using the words boyfriend and girlfriend seems to demean what they really are to each other. The word beau is not ideal, but 'significant other' is very impersonal, and the word lover is very shocking in some circles. Nothing really seems to fit perfectly, but beau at least doesn't sound juvenile.

honestly i have never really thought about it, and being refer to as a girlfriend, never bothered me.
maybe it is because i never went steady with anyone in highschool and now i can live out my highschool fantasies....now i need to find a guy with a letter jacket 8)

A couple of questions about Red River Gorge are asked. 2 replies purtain to the original topic and then a long string about the terminology used to define a relationship.
Jen,
If you plan on being down here for 5 days, hopefully there will be plenty of opportunities where the weather will cooperate. If it does rain, there are plenty of trails to go hiking.
There have been several threads already about dogs being at the crag. It sounds as though you are trying to be responsible by asking these questions up front. Controlling your pet and being mindful of those around you goes a long way.
Have fun.

I tend to avoid labeling people. When making introductions I just say, "this is <name of hottie of the month>" with no qualifier as to our relationship. Or I may say, "this is my friend, <name>." If I want to point out that I am dating a certain someone, I will generally just say that I am dating that certain someone - usually only if I am asked, and generally not in the presence of the person I am dating. Not that I've had to worry about any of this recently.

yeah, even my little dog can do most of the approaches at the Red without having to be carried too much. Just please respect Miguel's wishes at his place. Keep your dog on a leash and pick up his poo. Even though you will see a lot of loose dogs running around, it's not permitted.
