my family has had t-mobile, cingular, suncom, verizon wireless and sprint over the last few years.
We now all three have sprint...no roaming...no long distance and the best coverage of any that we've seen. Lots of other perks too. Hey yeah our minutes start at 7 pm now too!!
By the way if a company is bought out you have like 60 days to drop the contract without paying any $ I think.
Freaking Cingular is following me!!!
If you ONLY want a phone for an emergency just get an old one from a friend and keep it charged up and in the car. All cel phones will dial 911 whether they're activated or not.
I got pissed at BellSouth cellular, said I never deal with them again, got a Cingular phone and then they were bought by BellSouth.
Cellphones aren't evil. It's the bubble wrap that's evil. If you don't pop it thoroughly it'll strangle you in your sleep.

I don't know if anyone will know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway:
I think that I've seen quite a few people with Cingular phones get service at/near various crags at the Red and at Miguel's.
1) Is this true?
2) If so, (here's the technical part) does anyone know if the service there is TDMA or GSM? If it's GSM is it 1900 or 850?
I'll spare everyone the technical mumbojumbo about why this matters to me, unless anyone is interested.

Bacon is meat candy.
my Verizon phone gets service all over the Red (for the most part) but I have the National Single Rate plan which is relatively expensive. There are no charges for roaming off their network, so anywhere you get a signal - digital or analog - is on (you need a tri-band phone CDMA/TDMA/Analog for this to pay off). There are also no long distance charges.
The only bad part is that I can't get a reliable freakin signal at my own house in the sticks.
