Best sales year ever for my company.
My dept operated with 2/3 of the employees of last year. (yes, that's two people instead of three)
No Christmas bonus.
Owner of company just bought a Hawker corporate jet, a new yacht, new Mercedes, new Tahoe, new Silvarado (all three with every option), new condo in the Bahamas.
I feel so appreciated at work.

1 congratulations! I'm curious as to the business that flourishes in this market
2 yuck yuck yuck! I'm all about productivity ( though you had to work harder I'm sure)
3 that sucks. my guys wouldn't have that. my body would be 'discovered ' somewhere
4 now I really need to know the business . ( and subsidiaries) I have a boycott list 8)

This raises an interesting question to me. Now, i'm small time as far as business's go. If corporate america gives a bonus, what percentage of salary would be approp.?
I'm ( I think?) a big softy when Christmas rolls arround and rather than the lump of coal some of my guys have secretly been hinting at all year , I step up to the plate and surprise them. Maybe I'm fostering bad habits. I really would like some input on this, as a percentage. ?????

My company is called Mi-Tech Metals. We produce tungsten alloy parts for a variety of industries -- everything from golf club weights to helicopter and airplane parts to medical radiation shielding to defense. One of our major competitors had their worst year ever and we had our best. What a nice reward we got for that.
BTW: owner just got back from Florida where we had what he called a "redneck" party with his friends. Real redneck - fly down in jet, get on $400,000 'company' RV to go to "redneck" party, drink premium booze, fly back in jet.
It just makes you sick to your stomach when all year they promise bonuses if the company does well, then turn around and not give them. One excuse was "we're reinvesting alot of money in the company". Sure, technically the company owns the RV, the jet, the yacht, a fleet of vehicles (owner now has 20 cars).
How fucking hard is it to give just a little back to the people that made you all that cash you greedy egotistical bastard?!
And as far as how much is appropriate? It depends on the company, profit made, etc. Realistically, I'd be happy if they came out and said there's not alot of money for bonuses so everyone gets $100.

DH,
He doesn't own you, you own you. Having worked with a small business owner in the past I know how they are. They want to pay you as little as humanly possible and still keep you as an employee...in fact aren't all Companys like this
The deal is, if you really can't stand it and feel that you are being treated unfairly the only way to correct thte situation is to look for a new job and skate on outta there. Complaining about it only makes things worse for you, and the people around you both at home and the ones at work who choose to stay.
Change is scary but trust me it is more good than scarry...sounds like time for a new jobby job.
The only other option is that you decide the benfits...whatever they may be outweigh the costs of staying put.
Good luck in your decision...it's not an easy one....I know.

Lest we all forget... climbing is a mostly meaningless pursuit that we do for fun.
Power2U: Any company that buys a corporate jet is no "small" companies. My experience is that small companies are the best about treating their employees well. If you happen to run a small company (e.g. 2 or 3 employees), you are considered "rich", and are taxed accordingly. I can tell you that some small companies give out Christmas bonuses anyway.
The company I work for hasn't given bonuses for a few years. The CEO at one point was getting 50 million dollar bonuses for himself. Must be nice.

No chalkbag since 1995.
I worked for a small company of about 80 employees (yes that is considered small) and it had a company jet. If the executives have to travel a lot it can almost be justified.kato wrote:Power2U: Any company that buys a corporate jet is no "small" companies.
I really think the whole bonus thing just comes down to how much a company values it's employees. Some companies see them as assets others think that they can replace anyone whenever they need to.
