Pure conspiracy theory below:
What about the body doubles? I wonder how they differentiated the person they captured from the two or so guys that Sadam had surgically altered to look just like him. Their job was to make appearances so that the real Sadam could move around secretly - it sounds like getting captured and then blabbing all sorts of inaccurate stuff would be part of the job description. Captured easily in a dirt hole, with two nobodies and a mere US$750k? Hmmmmmm.....
(I don't mean these observations seriously - just some possibly entertaining theorizing)
SADDAM CAPTURED
That would be nice, but it is/will be much more difficult.Jeff wrote:Cool.
Now let's get Osama.
I'm dreading the spin from the administration on this. Capturing Sadam may be important, but Ba'athism is a whole ideological system, so it may not work to 'cut the head' off the organization to kill it. By now the resistance has figured out how to operate in a less top down way, and it is part of the broader movement to resist the foreign occupation, regardless of political ideology.
One aspect of the spin will be to down play the fact that Sadam was a minimal threat to the domestic US population directly, while Osama is clearly a direct threat to us. But Iraq/Sadam was a sitting duck (and easier to get news footage of). This fits right into the 'Operation Distract' aspect of the whole involvement in Iraq.

Is this a joke...I know what they are getting at, but usually you get a before and after picture of the same person...as a journalist, this seems like a mistake to me. Although, the comedic effect is fabulous. Maybe some in the web department at CNN was feeling a bit cheeky this morning...

I thank God everyday that Al Gore was not elected President.........
G.W. has the fortitude, courage, and resolve to stay on these bastards wherever they choose to hide or fight. "Let's keep the whole world happy so they'll donate to my campaign" Gore would have botched this whole thing, just like his "daddy" Clinton did when he had the opportunity. Let me remind you that more acts of terrorism by al Qaeda occured to the U.S. (both at home and abroad) on his watch. What did he do to stop it ??
I would personally prefer to have to fight those who want to do harm to us on foreign soil, not our own. Don't be fooled, Sadaam had his hands in the terrorism business. Remember Abu Nidal (terrror leader)? He was living in Baghdad until his death shortly before the war started in March. He had been living there for 10 years under the protection of Sadaam. WMD's will be found. (Why else would he have the facilities to produce chemical and biological weapons? If you were paying attention, you would know we found them.)
Too many folks have lived the sheltered life. Recent generations have no concept of what is takes to fight for and defend freedom. It was handed down to us by prior generations who paid for it in blood. They died on the battlefield in hopes that we would not have to. The only thing they asked was that we defend it with the same vigor should it come under attack in our life times. I'm surprised that it only took 2 years for us to forget that freedom is under attack. Are you prepared to defend it ?
So the next time you want to take a "swipe" at G.W. and his War on Terrorism (because you think it's the 'in thing" to do) remember this:
It is because of strong, resolved leadership like that of G.W. Bush that the torch of freedom is carried from generation to generation. He fights what you fear. It is because of him you can go to the mall and not have to be worried about being blown to bits by a suicide bomber.
God bless America and those who defend her !!!!!!

The next person that asks me to play "Amazing Grace" again will have a reason for me to play it !!!!!
You sound like a republican drone. "Glory, Glory, hallelujah!" George Bush is a puppet in my opinion. I think Tom Darch should wade in on this one. Politics is not my bag. About a fifty percent approval rating last time I heard. And by the way I served during Operation Desert Storm, so I know a little bit about what it's really like. Easy to pound the war gavel when you haven't seen it first hand.
I've had just about enough of this shit.
