OK, ya'll...
So this is what I've heard...
A couple days after the comp someone anonymously accused someone of cheating/forging the names (for more than half the problems) on their card. The individual was confronted about it and admitted to forging the names but swore that they really did the problems and just "forgot" to get witness signatures. So, as a last minute decision, they just put their friends' names down.

Now.....this person is nice and has a lot of friends (including the judges). So based on the testimony of some friends, the judges have cancelled anymore further questioning about the situation. The accused offered to do a repeat of the problems but the judges decided that wasn't even necessary.

Do you all think this is fair? Personally, I don't. Nice person or not, I think they should have to repeat the problems on their scorecard to prove they did the problems. In all honesty, I think it's doing them an injustice to NOT allow them a repeat.

I wrote to the people who run the triple crown bouldering series and told them I thought the accused should have to do a repeat.

I really think the person should've just been disqualified. It shouldn't matter if this person is nice. Forgery - no matter how you spell it - is cheating.

Artsay if this is true then in the words of Desi, "someone has some 'splainin' to do."

This person should have been disqualified or made to do the problems over again. If they're going to let this one person get away with it, then what about those other people that couldn't get away with it just because they didn't have the same connections or weren't known as a "nice person". They need to be firm with the rules and keep the punishments the same for each person that would be caught cheating.

Hmmm.. I wasn't there, so I don't know what the vibe was like, but a big part of why I've really enjoyed the bouldering comps I've been in was the really laid back atmosphere. It sounds like the Triple Crown is a big enough thing (prizes, money, egos) that it has to be 'by the book' and not Broshido (the way of the bro' - I'm makin' stuff up here)

The situation sounds bad. Maybe the 'nice' thing to do would have been to omit the routes that you didn't get initialed, but that didn't happen. My sense of things would be that this person, at best, should only have the chance to get points for the routes that other competitors are willing to attest that they saw him do during the comp and that he can repeat. Even that is probably too generous.

I guess that the person could always disqualify himself and apologize, but it doesn't sound like that is very likely.

That's a really lame thing to do. That's why bouldering comps are cool, cause they are on the honor system. Where's the honor in that? Next time I compete I am putting the POTUS down as my witness.

Thanks for giving us the beta Horatio... probably the most interesting turn of events I've read in a climbing forum for a long time. I wonder if the Triple Crown hosts will stick to their word and announce who cheated.
Not a bitch.
