Bryan & I keep a close look at what the kids are doing. Our computer is in the kitchen, major traffic flow, so no privacy for them! But then again, not a major concern since I can't keep them off of the games!
Just genuinely disengenuous.

Don't worry, I'm fixing all that... won't be on yahoo much longer Meadows.
Not a bitch.

rather than hide people from such things and further become a society of fragile PC correct martyrs perhaps we should just open everyones eyes to this stuff. 80% of it is in joke form... 10% is just people being assholes trying to get a rise out of you and the other 10% is a combination of the two. censorship is just stalling progression of humanity. The only thing i have found remotely offensive is some of the ignorance found on that aids/gay discussion.. but that is found much more in rel life than on the net.... and its a good way to try to combat these close minds. let the people read everything and anything. let them think for themselvs and develope their own thoughts. to shelter a child from anything ( as long as they can comprehend it) is very wrong. IMHO
...well, i can only climb about a 5.10. but i can belay a 5.14c like you wouldn't believe!!

Maybe one option would be to have a member option that excludes the flame forum, and the threshold for shifting threads over there when they get out of hand could be lowered. That would be useful both for kids and the easily offended.

On one hand, I never had a phone, computer or TV in my room as a kid, so my parents were big into that principle. (But then, as a kid I was quite able to stay awake later than my parents, and our cable system had a suprisingly ineffective scrambling system  )

On the other hand, I don't think that as a tweleve or fourteen year old, I would have been particularly traumatized by anything here. After all, remember what you talked about with your friends out on the schoolyard when you were fourteen - most of it wouldn't make it past Sandy!

People who post to this should have respect for all of the other people in the forum. If you obvously know you are going to write something that isn't right/appropriate for anyone to read you should pull the discussion off-list and direct it to the person it is intended for--not the whole group. Free speech is free speech, but there is also the innate knowledge of what is responsible and appropriate. If you have any thought that it's not good, it probably isn't.

hopeless
now that would ruin half the fun. Nothing makes me feel warm and fuzzy to waking up in the morning checking the bored and read about people chopping cocks and eating each other.

If what you said would happen I would visit this sight half as much.
Nasty stories and Rude people make lif soo much more interesting.

I suppose I agree with you to a point. I guess if your child/loved one is young enough that you don't want them exposed to a bunch of garbage, you should be keeping an eye on where the internet takes them. It's just too bad that some people will avoid this site half of the time for the same reasons you visit...What's fair to some is not fair to others--but that could be a thread all by itself...

Climbing appeals to young children too. It's a shame that no matter what people do SOMEONE is alienated. Oh, well. Maybe off-color posting should not be posted in threads unrelated to off-color subjects? Not that it bothers me personally, but if we're talking about keeping the forum friendly for all kinds...

If you cleaned this place up ,it would die. On the other hand ,some things need moderated. I think it's fine the way it is. Moderation is key.
