..being franny glass (think salinger)

..not being zooey glass

..never being sure if the other side of the fence really does have greener grass

..books full of nothing but simple sentences

..being passive aggressive instead of just being straightforward with some people

..squeaking styrafoam

..health codes that are unnecessary and lead to excessive waste

..the idea that if you aren't happy something is very wrong. sadness is an ok feeling, it's natural. happiness isn't the sole purpose of life

I'll try to avoid re-igniting thigns - but I do want to compliment the you guys on some really thoughtful comments! (Particularly pointing out how the concept of 'tolerance' belies an implied, covert power structure. Down with cryptofacism!)

tolerance is when you let someone live unimpeded in a society. It is taking tolerance too far when 'thought police' try to make a person agree that all 'choices' are valid.
Tolerence is a word used by the p.c. police as an acusation of not being p.c.

Necro, to tolerate something implies you have power to stop it, but choose not to. To put up with, allow, or endure, rather than prohibit (dictionaries are now adding "To recognize and respect" because of years of improper use) is the correct definition of tolerate.

The fact still remains that if  .....wait...no, I told Christian I'd stop and so I will. :D

I hate:

When professional speakers (news casters, etc), paid for their "mastery" of the English language, misuse the word "got" to imply present or future tense..."We've got to do something". NO "We HAVE to do something" "Got" is entirely past tense, meaning to receive, aquire, obtain, etc, but, much like the word "LIKE" has been bastardized into common use. Can everyone type with me "AOL can kiss my a$$", and email it to Steve Jobs so he hears "You've got mail".....

if you look up "tolerance" at m-w.com, all of the definitions suggest that there is still some bound. i'm a strong advocate of tolerance. at the same time, though, i don't agree that all choices are vaild. nor do i agree that it is letting someone live unimpeded in a society. someone says, "i'm going to kill the next person that walks by because i feel like it." you could argue it's valid (you're an extremist idiot, though) because it's what they want and who are we to say what a person can and can't have. but you can't allow that in a society. that's mass chaos. tolerance, in my opinion, is more respecting people's ideas and viewpoints while maintaining a basis of reason and perspective to determine what's appropriate. i tolerate assholes, but i don't let them break my shit.

i somehow feel i'm not saying what i mean to very well.. sorry
