Who got hurt?

Post by SCIN »

So, everyone at working is talking about a climber who is in the hospital due to a fall at the Red this weekend. Anyone have any info? Was it really a climber or another hiker?

Local Lex news this morning said an injuried climber was airlifted out after apparently zipping some pro at Fortress, perhaps one of those Chicago climbers placed a faulty Nobel prize they feel they are all associated with, We won, we won barf

Word around Miquels last night was that his rope was cut during a lead fall. No one really knew the whole story.

From the Lexington Herald-Leader online today, http://www.kentucky.com/mld/heraldleade ... 336695.htm:
MAN INJURED IN CLIMBING ACCIDENT

A man who was rock rappelling fell about 50 feet yesterday morning at Red River Gorge in Menifee County, Sheriff Rodney L. Coffey said. The 22-year-old man, whose name was not released, had an apparent equipment malfunction while rappelling at 9 a.m. about seven miles from Frenchburg, Coffey said. The man was flown by helicopter to University of Kentucky Hospital, where his condition was unavailable last night. An Ohio man died at Red River Gorge on Nov. 16 when he fell 150 feet while camping.
This could mean anything. I hope he will be okay.

Never heard anything about the ax until we were on our way home. Hope the guy heals up and we can gather some detail as to what happened. Word was Ch 18 had a reader at 6 Sunday on the ax, so who knows what sort of info was spewed forth. Something about it happening at Fortress Ridge and the guy being from IL.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

As far as I know, he was a University of Illinois student from Champaigne. I heard that he took a fifty foot ground fall at Fortress and suffered a concusion and a punctured lung.

His gear was dropped off at MIguels for him to pick up or something...

i would like to hear the full story.
