Merrick' s Climbing Pictures Weekly Update

Now as many of you know, I have been on a non-stop climbing trip for over a year now. During this time I have acquired about 2,000 photos from my adventures. On top of that I have tons of photos from older trips as well. That is a large amount to select from and there are some good ones in there.

So I am going to try an experiment. I am going to see if I can release a new gallery featuring a new area every week for the next two months. If I am disciplined enough to work on it regularly I should be able to pull this off.

So if you are interested in seeing pictures and reading trip reports from my various adventures you will get a weekly fix.

To start things off I put together a gallery from a few years ago during my first long trip to the Red. This was back when Pocket Wall was still open and you could camp at Roadside. That week I fell in love with the Red and the amazing climbs that I found there.

It's interesting to look at the picture of Creature Feature and see how the base of the climb was just 3 years ago.
I've thought about taking pics of areas from year to year just to see how the impacts affect them.

Ha! What was johns last name? I always called him sport climber John. Is he still climbing?

huggybone,

i haven't seen john in a few years and I have forgotten his last name. however I suspect he is still out there climbing. There was a guy down in portrero before me who was from the south and caught a few tarantulas. John's family business was to catch tarantula's and reptiles and sell them to pet stores. John's older brother also climbed so it might of been him though.

I'm not sure how to spell their last name but I'll take a shot: Niedameyer
It was John, Mike and I forget the youngest one's name. Last time I saw them was at the Red in the warly spring.

maybe this will help wes, sandy and all the others going to hueco this winter get psyched up!

Week 2: Hueco Tanks, TX

This week I put together a gallery of pictures from the few days I spent at Hueco on my current road trip. I came expecting to be blown away by the quality of the climbing and left disappointed. However, I also left determined to come back and explore more. So many climbers couldn’t be wrong.

Some of the problems were really good and while the overall atmosphere was lacking Rob’s Rock Ranch was awesome and the boulders themselves were really cool.

Here is a thanksgiving edition of my picture gallery. Happy Thanksgiving.

Week 3: The Petit Grepon, Rock Mountain National Park, CO

For this week’s gallery I dug into some of my older pictures and found shots from my first alpine climb. We climbed the Petit Grepon on my birthday in the middle of a two-week trip to Colorado. It was definitely the highlight of the trip. I found the experience of climbing high in the mountains both exhilarating and frightening. The cirque of granite towers surrounding the Petit Grepon was a beautiful location to try alpine climbing.
