Looking to move to Lexington, Cincinnati, Richmond

Post by Huggybone »

I'm sick of Iowa and the fact that everyone here in under eighteen, or over 40. Its flat, and music is not a priority. So I want to move. I know teachers don't get paid squat in kentucky, but I can take a pay hit and live.

If you hear anything about a Band director position opening, let me know, I'll be on top of it like white on rice.

Allright...future Huggy and Alexis sightings.
How expensive is it going to be to haul all those chunks of metal east?

I didn't see any openings for Music Directors, but it's a good page to bookmark.

Try this link: www.kidsmusik.com
It's seems to be a growing business in the state. While it isn't much, it could prove to be a start.
Good luck.

I dunno. Music education seems to be one of the first things to see the axe these days. It doesn't show up distinctively (despite being proven to improve math and science scores) on the test our right wing brethren have foisted upon the public schools so it is early to be axed, along with art, acting, and physical education. If anyone happened to hear the public sentiments in Tennessee last year when they tried to pass a tiny tax increase for the schools... man, it was ugly. Not only the gap toothed trailer trash that voted against it but the words they said. As far as Tennessee was concerned, schools were a waste of money. Though they would've spelled it "waist." Anyway, the Kentucky educational system's motto is, "Thank God for Mississippi." That's because of our government, not the teachers, he says hoping to avoid any rotten tomatoes. Maybe you'd do better looking for work in Indiana or Ohio...

Ummm...I beg to disagree with you on that Alan. Kentucky's KERA--which has gone through many phases, so your sentiments may be right about previous forms--has placed a huge amount of pressure on school systems to produce well rounded individuals. It is now a requirement by the state, I believe, that every h.s. student must take a series of "humanities" courses to graduate high school. Those include several music/dance/vocal classes.

Huggybone--check with Powell County around I think April...that's when they renew or deny contracts. (There are 3 elementary schools--Bowen Ele. is the best, 1 middle and 1 high school in the county.) Wouldn't that be nice, work all day, climb in the afternoon?
