I was there last April. Could not find any climbing. There are a lot of huge mountains but it is so lush with vegitation, I think finding exposed rock is unlikely. Are you going there? The place is Incredible!!

My best friend in the world was in the Peace Corp in Costa Rica in the late 80's and he sent me unbelieveably beautiful photos. I regret never having visited him there. I seem to recall the political situation there can get ugly at times lately.

I have some climbing contacts there; mostly sport,short routes on very sharp rock. Climbing doesn't seem to be that established down there though ,so I don't know how hard they are looking. One of them said his half day at the gorge was like a 'dream come true', the other one's graduation present was a trip to Switzerland to climb in the biggest honking gym he could find. Supposedly he's their ranking junior climbing champion. They keep saying it's volcanic and very painful?
