Is that really true?!? I haven't read one post of his yet that was worth the time.

The shrinking text idea is excellent. However, it's obvious there is no active moderator for these forums or a lot of the threats of violence that are on here would've been deleted a long time ago. Since there is no god there can be no judgement. Since there can be no judgement no decision can be made on text shrinkage... Unless you did it via polls (one vote per registered user only).

the shrinking text idea is not practical because of the amount of effort it would take to implement in phpBB. We would have to take away your post editing capabilities and nothing would stop anyone from quoting the shrunken text at whatever size font they wished to use. Again, if someone perpetually offends you, don't read his or her posts. It's really that simple.

There are several moderators here. I am one of them. If you have a valid complaint about a specific post, please bring it to my attention via PM. I don't read every thread. If I notice a thread starting to degenerate, I typically move it into the Suck forum unless it is otherwise useful, then I will either ask the offender to edit his/her post or I will moderate it.

I prefer not to have to moderate anyone's posts. I'm pretty sure most of us are grownups here, so please use your best judgement before clicking that Submit button. The rest of the people posting on this board have an active role they can play as well when any one poster is a problem: do not reply to him/her. That will stop a thread pretty darn quickly. Likewise, please don't get your panties in a wad over every off color post. We are climbers afterall.

So you're saying climbers don't have wadded panties?

If only there were a way we could block posts from the person (or persons) we don't like. There's nothing worse than reading a thread and seeing someone (supposedly an adult) making threats of violence against others that disagree with him (or her). If you're a good reader it's difficult not to scan a short sentence like "Time and place, bitch. I'll beat the shit out of you." Ok, that was two sentences. But you get the idea and you know the threads I'm talking about.

I ran a couple of forums back in the dark ages (2000) and I tried to never touch anyone's posts. But I had someone that went off at length and obscenely threatening serious violence and general mayhem. It was way out of line, just like the above posts I'm referring to and that I think this is all about. It was just one person out of around 100 that were posting. I warned him, he went off again, and I banned his IP forever. Simple as that.

Threats of violence are considered assault in the real world and since most of us spend a lot of time in a small area in Eastern KY, threats made on this board could also be considered assault.

Thanks for watching over the board, Sandy (et. al.). A light hand is the best approach, for sure. But I think in some cases it may be too light. Just my 1.5 cents.

You know, really, I just thought it would be funny to watch people's fonts shrink. And Sandy, with the freaky friday antics that go on here, it should be a simple matter to script it. Actually, give me the keys to the castle and I'll script it myself!

Meanwhile, I found a cool game:

Maybe the forum could be scripted so it would be really hard to threaten other boarders! You could automatically change kick to kiss, beat to rub, shoot to caress, stab to "pleasure," or maybe phrases like "kick your ass" could automatically change to "give you cookies."

I've got to admit that the "I'm a bigger redneck than you" thread was pretty funny. That kind of rooster crowing IS humorous. Posting a threat with your phone number and a "meet me behind the gymn after lunch" kind of attitude isn't. Or maybe it is and I suck.
