Vandalism back in the Gorge?
Vandalism back in the Gorge?
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

That really blows. Unfortunately I have had first hand experience with the theft and vandalism at the Red. I’m still finding pieces of my old truck window thru out the cab. We all know the local law enforcement will not help us or break a sweat trying to find the culprits. I say its time to take matters in our own hands. Merrick and I were talking about rounding up about 8-10 guys with bats, #7 tri-cams and whatever else they feel like bringing. Set-up a car full of gear, wait in the woods, and when they come beat the living shit out them. It may not solve the problem, but I bet it would make the next lazy no good son of a bitch think twice before he broke into another car. Any volunteers ?!?!?!?!?
Well, that will definitely get media attention.Bring a knife and cut off their fingers OR bring a gun and blow their nuts off!
Oh course, any illegal action the climbers try to take will probably to punished to the full extent of the law, while the locals label the vandals as victims.

When I hear or read about stuff like that I feel angry and sad. Vandalism as a word doesn't seem to cover that kind of behavior. We have a mailbox that is routinely smashed and I have thought about setting up one of those game cameras they use to photo animals at night. Some good photographic evidence would help prosecuting these people. My guess is from the degree of destruction it was probably boys in there late teens.
I try to be a good man but all that comes
of trying is I feel more guilty.

I know that several cars were broken into the weekend before last in the mother load parking lot. A license from one of the wallets stollen was found at a grocery store in Beatyville. Unfortanitaly these are probably locals doing the vandalism/stealing. Of course the cops did nothing which leads me to believe that the only solution is to leave NOTHING of value in your car and the doors unlocked. It really sucks that this is even an issue. Several years ago when the break-ins were happening at roadside a female friend of mine had her stuff stolen from under stay the hand and when she went to the parking lot to see if her car was ok she was chased by the man up the trail and later found all four of her tires slashed by an ice ax. The cops took one look at her out of state license plate and New York ID and said, sorry there is nothing we can do. I expect we will get no help from the local athorities but maybe someday someone will catch them. A guy we were climbing with the weekend of the break-in at the load happened to walk down just as the car speed off. He got a good look at what car they were driving. I think the J.H can give you a better discription. So heads-up everyone and make sure there is nothing you would miss in your cars when you go climbing for the day.
Yeah, I was trying to catch some one on Fixer and I was flying low. I didn't come upon any one. As for me seeing a car, I didn't. I did a little checking around and I came up with two 4-wheelers that were down there that day. One of them was a Quadzilla. It's a relatively rare 4-wheeler. It's very distinctive, its almost as wide as a small car. Very fast to. 500 cc 2 cycle single cylinder. Racing quadrunner. They were down there all dayon the day the stuff got stolen. So if you are in the S/R and you see this quad running around then WATCH OUT!!! It may be the perpetrator. http://www.dirtgirlzextreme.com/quadzilla.
