Got to Seneca this weekend. Hard to beat the view there, 360 degrees from 900 feet over about a million acres of poplar, maple, oak, etc. and the Potomac river, standing on a chunk of summit the size of a ping pong table. The leaves were just right. If we could just top it out before sunset...

Had a great hike Saturday out on the ridge above Frenchburg Overhangs. The weather was great and the views were awesome!

I like the walk up to tower. One of the only places in the red that I know of that still has a some old groth in it. Not that new generation after the logging fest stuff. Man, some big trees up there.

is there a whole stand of old growth up there or is it just some older growth that was left behind with some next generation?

I really enjoyed the view from the top of the wall at Left Flank with Face Up on it. The trees looked like a painter's easel with all of the different colors. And the grey color of the sky made for a really interesting contrast. I don't think it's possible for the Red not to look beautiful.

There is a "virgin forest" hidden somewhere. I'm not sure where (somewhere near Red River Gorge), but there is an old book.....waaayyyy out of print, and probably not available anywhere..........that I saw once on my first visit to Miguels about 7 years ago..........that had photos of it. I also saw photos in another book I saw at a Half Price Book store a few years ago that was all about the Kentucky outdoors.

Blanton Forest... it's old growth. Now a virgin forest is somewhere that sounds like a great place to visit to me!!
