Bolting Hardware Question (again)

Post by routeriddler »

Trying this question post again....any serious feedback to my questions below is greatly appreciated.

Been bolting some routes and was curious about thoughts on hardware at top anchors. I'm using 5" SS Powers expansion bolts. Using 3/8" zinc plated quick links at the chains. I know I can go big and purchase SS links, but I was curious about any feedback on the links I'm using as noted...size and finish.

Also, has anyone noticed on the SS Powers bolts (recently) that the end piece (the small threaded head at the end) looks like it's zinc instead of SS? I've been planning to call the manuf about this to confirm but the finish looks different than the rest of the bolt.

Every response to your original post was serious and the posters are all experienced climbers who have been climbing in the Red for many years. You need to contact climb2core to get on board with how the community is addressing anchor installations. As far as Powers SS bolts everything I am seeing in their product specifications is saying 304 stainless for both the internal bolt and the sleeves.

The expansion cone is electroplated (zinc plated) 304 Stainless Steel, READ: IT IS SS.. Realize that the 5 piece SS bolts will require re-tightening a couple times after the initial torquing. The manufacture says they can lose more than 50% of their initial torque overnight. Where are you putting up routes, you can PM me if you don't want to say publicly.
