BUZZZZ....Sorry Meadows. Most people have two sides to their personality and Tori is no exception. There were reports of her in the Red a year or two ago trying to cut in line to get to a climb. The guy said "I believe I am next". Her reply? Something to the effect of 'You should step aside and give way to better climbers'. Please note the single quotes as I am not sure of exactly what was said. Is it just a rumor? Possibly. Do I believe a 12-13 y.o. girl would have a slightly inflated ego as a result of her success and parental pressure? Most definitely.

Tori,
If this is really you, let me be the first to apologize for all the duffers on here. Grown ups, or those in the process of adulthood, can at times get all pessimistic by failures in their personal lives. As wierd as this may sound, the remarks on here are no so much about you, but are more an indication of the mean spiritedness and internal quandries of the poster. I have never met you, and it amazes me how so many people have opinions on such a subject. Please know that the majority of people are rooting for you to succeed in your pole vaulting as well as in your rock climbing. You take them where ever YOU and your parents decide to take them.

I am an old fart at 36, and sometimes we forget what it was like to be young, having huge dreams, being popular and liked, and just trying to find a passion. Please don't take our negativity as anything more than our attempt to shelter our own egos....

sincerely,
pigsteak

As for Tori herself, the one time I met her and her mom, she was a pretty ordinary 14 year old. Not being a 14 year old myself, I didn't exactly have a big conversation with her and her crazy-strong friends, but her mom was nice and interesting. That's just one ancedote from a low-key day at drive-by.

As for commercialization, I do worry about it. I skateboarded for years and watched it have it's ups and downs. All in all, the more commercialized it was, the worse things were for the sport itself. There's a pretty interesting documentary out about Mark 'Gator' Rogowski, who peaked then crashed on skating's commercialization. Luckily, climbing is not very TV-friendly. Watching sport climbing on TV is like watching golf - if you are really into it, it's great, but for the uniniated, what makes it difficult is not obvious so it's freaking boring (except that sport climbers take big whippers). Even televised bouldering can be pretty dull.

As climbing gets more and more commercialized there may even be a strong case for including it in the Olypmics. It currently qualifies based on having a strong international men's and women's competition circuit. Also, it fits right in with the Olympic motto: Higher, Faster, Stronger (translates to sport, speed and bouldering) On one hand, it would bolster climbing's legitimacy (which would help with land managers) but it would also increase the weasel-factor in the climbing industry and would attract less obsessed people to the activity.

Why insert weasels into the occasion. It reminds me of Loren and his gayweaseel penis hats which I might add the RRGCC as never sent a picture of one to me. I digress. Who cares how Tori Allen acts? Why even think about it. :|
I try to be a good man but all that comes
of trying is I feel more guilty.

You're probably right ... maybe we should just keep our kids and dogs away from her. She probably bites too. I'm not saying she's an angel, but people are judging her based on this story they heard about her saying "defer to the better climber." First, it's hearsay - we don't know the situation or what was in Tori's head (maybe she said it jokingly, if she said it). Second, she's a kid and still developing her personality, and she has to develop it with fame in her hands, which is probably tough to do.

the more i think about it, the more i think that she should try to capitalize on her fame and create a foundation that she can use to support herself to do what she loves to do in the future. it beats dumpster diving!

Today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.
