Beginner seeking partner/mentor

Post by Vly »

Hello all,

I have been climbing for about four months indoors. Absolutely loving it and eager to get outdoors. I've asked around a bit to other climbers I've met about going outdoors but unfortunately have not been able to find anyone interested in taking me out. I currently have shoes and a harness. I've top roped indoors, but have not been able to lead climb yet. If anyone is willing to show me the ropes I would greatly appreciate it. I live just south of Louisville. Thanks to all those who have made the Gorge and this site possible!!!

Thanks,

Ashley

hello

sounds like a nice offer and I hope you've had a number of reliable offers. if not, I may risk the heat and try a trip sometime this summer if you want to plan something, i'd be coming from north carolina.

also, here is a pretty good deal (?)

training is for people who care, i have a job.

I'm sorry for the slow reply.

Hi Smada, I have never lead belayed before. The local gym I go to doesn't allow lead climbing.

Hey Clif, that is an extremely kind offer. I was lucky enough to find a guy locally to offer some help. However, I would still be happy to climb with you if you are coming this way. I have not gone out yet, but am hoping to in July. I know its gonna be hot, but it should still be good practice to get on real rock and learn as much as I can about gear.

Hi Ken, unfortunately I work Mon through Fri. I'm only available during the weekends. but thank you very much for the offer!!

Have you considered joining the climbing meetup group? While we don't do outdoor meetups (liability worries) we're a friendly group to climb indoors with and sometimes people meet outdoor climbing partners that way. We meet twice a week and switch between Rocksports and Climb Nulu. http://www.meetup.com/Louisville-Rock-Climbing/

If you're looking to get involved with the climbing community in Louisville you should also check out Elemental Climbing Club -- www.elementalclimbingclub.com and also https://www.facebook.com/groups/Elementalclimbingclub/ -- we have members of all ability and experience levels and are just generally pretty stoked about going out to the gorge and getting strong. Show up at nulu most nights and you'll see a bunch of our crew.

Welcome to town!

Vly,
I live in Lexington and am looking for partners. Do you have any interest in Trad climbing. Nice fun and easy stuff. Let me know if you are interested. I will soon be able to do most any weekend.
