Rocktoberfest 2014 FAQs

Post by RRGCC »

In anticipation of a fantastic weekend of rock climbing, celebrating open access to great rock climbing, and raising money to keep it open forever, here are a few FAQs for the weekend.

Are the PMRP and MFRP open this weekend?
Yes, they are! The PMRP and MFRP are never closed. Please come and enjoy these great areas we all work so hard to ensure open access to!

What happens if it rains?
The show must and will go on! As always, we will have the giant circus tent for the Reel Rock Tour, music, auctions and much more. Pack your rain gear (or buy some from our sponsors) to keep the rain at bay and come play! Don't let the forecast keep you away - it could be wrong, and even if it's right, dry climbing on rainy days is one of the Red's best features!

Where is the MFRP parking lot?
GPS coordinates are 37°38’31.9″N 83°40’44.0″W (37.642204, -83.678900)
Directions: Follow 11 south toward Beattyville, past Koops Gas Station. Take a left on Shumaker Ridge Road - the first road on the left (after the Carpet sign). Follow the windy road for 3.5 miles and turn right down a gravel road next to Angel Falls Resort. Follow the gravel road to the bottom of the hill. Turn right before the large creek crossing. Follow the road with the creek on your left. You will come to a large gravel parking lot with oil tanks and a kiosk. Please park in this lot and make sure not to block oil equipment.

What is the condition of the road to the Sore Heel Parking lot?
Please do not park in Sore Heel parking lot - it is no longer financially sustainable to maintain. The RRGCC has created a new, sustainable parking area in Flat Holler. It is located on the left of Bald Rock Road opposite of the right turn to Sore Heel. Please use the short cut trail to access Sore Heel area. The walking distance is approximately 5 min.

I want to climb at MFRP but I do not want to enter the Clip-n-Go competition. Is that ok?
Of course it is!

What is the purpose of Rocktoberfest?
The purpose of Rocktoberfest is to raise money to pay the mortgage for the Miller Fork Recreational Preserve. The RRGCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The product and services of the generous vendors at Rocktoberfest have been donated to the RRGCC to help us raise as much money as possible for securing and maintaining our land.

How do the clinics work?
This year there are a variety of clinics that are offered by professional athletes from around the country. These athletes are donating their time to raise money for the mortgage payment. The clinics are on Sunday and will go from 9am until 3pm.

How much does child entry cost?
0-6 free of charge
7-12 admission is half price

I am really grateful to for sharing all this information here. I am really satisfied about that rain part, I am an event planner but right now working at a small level.
