If you are planning on traveling to the Red River Gorge this weekend, please keep in mind the nasty winter weather that is headed our way tonight and into tomorrow. US National Weather Service Jackson Kentucky is predicting 8"-11" of snow and sleet to cover the area in the coming 24 hrs. Due to this threat, The US Forest Service has made the decision to close some Forest Service Roads. Please use caution, and see the USFS bulletin below for more details.
"Due to hazardous conditions from heavy rain, ice, and snow, all Forest Roads in the Red River Gorge are closed effective immediately. These roads include Indian Creek Road (FDR 9), Chimney Top Road (FDR 10), Rock Bridge Road (FDR 24), and Tunnel Ridge Road (FDR 39). KY 15, KY 77, and KY 715 will remain open, but are considered low priority during a winter storm event. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution while traveling these roads. The Red River Gorge is still open to hiking and camping. Those wishing to access camping areas via the closed forest roads are welcome to travel them by foot. Please do not block the gates while parking.
If you have further questions, you may call the Stanton Office (today through Friday) at 606-663-0576 ext. 150 or the Gladie Center (beginning March 9th ) at 606-663-8100."
