First, as a little girl, I never looked at barbie and said, WOW, what long legs you have...DANG, what big boobs you have. Her long legs were easy to hold on to, her boobs made it hard to dress her. My barbie was an astronaut who kicked Ken out on his keister because he wanted her to stay home. Yep, I'm weird but that's just me. So, aside from the whole "this is what a woman should look like" argument, the theory that barbie damages young egos doesn't fly with me. I wouldn't put the pressure on telling girls that they should look like Tori Allen either. It's not fair. Most girls will never look like her.

You're right J.H. I am smarter than that.
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

Sheesh it's just a doll . Big deal. You don't have to buy it. As long as Ho isn't molesting it ,who cares?
Kids need good role models like Tori. They could be idolizing Marylin Manson instead.

I agree ynot. I am seriously going to get this doll for my daughter. She's going to love it! I'd buy this climbing doll for my little climber even if it was a climbing Barbie with huge breasts stuffed into a sports bra, a tiny little waste, painted nails and stilleto climbing shoes. Kids don't get worked up about those details. I just think she'll love it.

I'm not sure why anyone would hold a grudge against Tori Allen for this or any of the marketing done around this kid. She is, afterall, just that - a kid, and she isn't running the show. Sponsorship and the marketing of athletes to sell products works, so of course it is done. BFD.

dude in my opinion she is false advertising her self as a climber, i think that is why most people dont like that she has her own doll now. if she actually climbed out side often (like she did 3 years ago before all of this) I think if they make a doll it needs to the the Tori Allen Compitition climbing doll. because she isnt a rock climber shes a plastic climber

So, just out of curiosity, those pics of her climbing...outside...last year and such on her web site...fabricated like man landingon the moon?

Yes climbing outside is more difficult that inside, but DAMN, the girl can climb. By your view, stadium sprint cyclists (been in the Olympics for some time now) are not actually cyclists, because they aren't riding outside in the elements of nature and on the road - no wind, sand, rain or other natural elements.

Allah, you're a very good climber and I understand the thinking that people will see Tori's climbing on plastic and think "that's climbing", then hear you climb and think "that's what you do", but, oh well. Unless you're trying to impress non-climber when talking to them, it doesn't matter.

I ride a sportbike. I ride hard and prefer what *I* consider to be the purity of riding, which is turns and "twisties" and what the bike was designed for, not flat, boring straight roads. If the subject of motorcycles comes up with a non-rider, I know they have no real concept of the differences between the roads I ride and how I ride them and the guy they see in shorts, a t-shirt and no helmet on their city streets. Oh well, I deal with it, because I ride for me.

My analogy is a little "off", because straight, flat roads require very little skill at all to manuver on, while Tori is still making killer crimps, slick slopers and mega-tough roofs, some of them just happen to be on plastic (though, again I reference her website showing her on a wicked-cool roof).

It's kind of a weird situation, in my opinion. She's just a kid and looks at the world through a kid's perspective. Kids think they're the best because they're told they're the best all the time by their family. In this case, she really is closer to being "the best" than most because she's an amazingly talented athlete.

I think her parents have failed her by not giving her any guidance on humility. They've taught her to be a braggart and that's why the climbing community is so harsh on her, IMO. Katie Brown and Dave Hume, as child climbing prodigies, were idolized by both kids and adults because they weren't cocky or conceded. I know Dave's parents and have met Katie's Mom and attribute they're attitude, in most part, to their parenting. Does anyone know her parents? Are they the driving force (as it appears) to all this craziness?

She's just a kid. Sponsorship is usually attained by self-promotion. I doubt she's doing this herself. It's one thing to make a line of clothing or shoes but to sell an action figure of yourself and remakes of all your own personal items....that's just kinda weird.

I feel sorry for her, really. She obviously loves climbing, sharing climbing, and helping others share the love of climbing but she's so misguided as to what correct social behavior is that she's being made to look like an obnoxious and arrogant kid. That's sad...
