is it possible that the glory attached to having one's name attached to the FA for a climb is just compensation for the hardware required?

3 Routes are up for FA. The developer will work with you to find and then bolt a route in your desired grade range.
If not decking off of shitty failing hardware is not considered compensation enough, there is also a bunch of swag.

thanks for work c2c. your op mentions new routes then the link is more about maintaining old ones, all of which is good. obviously i should give some money and keep my thoughts to myself. i'm just reluctant to perpetuate a status quo that expands available routes and the hordes of new climbers and yet which doesn't bring full circle the caretakers to maintain what is established. i just think of all the work of Tackett, Blake, Terry and obviously many others put in over the years and is there a recognition of what it takes to keep it going?

A couple of thoughts..

1.) We are trying to reduce the need for rebolting by using stainless steel bolts on the first go round. About 2700 SS bolts have been distributed to developers for new routes for that purpose.

2.) We have been fortunate to partner with the American Safe Climbing Association and they are providing most of the materials for our rebolting needs at NO COST to us. That includes SS glue ins, glue, brushes, and nozzles. 2014 was probably one of the best years in the history of the gorge for rebolting. We do use some funds for glue, chain, etc to cover what the ASCA does not provide. And we greatly appreciate the vision of Terry, Blake, Tackett, et al and have continued to expand upon what they started.

Dustin has been keeping track of the rebolting efforts and could speak better to specifics.

So in short, the initiative is addressing both sustainable bolting solutions on all fronts.

Your (and everyone's) donation is needed for it to work on the scale needed for the Red. Anything helps,$5 does one bolt so about $50 to subsidize one route.

You can donate at:
http://www.redriverclimbing.com/mankbank/MankBank.htm

Also, please consider donating to the ASCA. They have done great things for fixed gear all over the US.

Thanks,

Ian

hey c2c, yes, you are correct, i assume that anything with a facebook address is not meant for me. anyway, perhaps my 'question' could better be understood from this perspective:
dustonian wrote:Madness and Omaha are next. Just need to find someone with the skills, time, and motivation.
From: http://www.redriverclimbing.com/viewtop ... &start=150

also, as the link you refer to put it, more or less, 'subsidizing' developers for the reason that the good stuff is too expensive for them on there own seems to be encouraging people with an otherwise ambivalent regard to preservation.

none of this is to say that i don't think the rebolting part is not excellent and worth supporting.
