The oil workers are just doing their jobs. They are not there to stop you from climbing and would not use force of any kind. They just erected gates at Charmagne's direction. So, what's wrong with being Southern Fried?

Nothing wrong with it. I like Southen Fried Chicken. I guess I just liked the way it sounds.

So they are not trying to stop us from climbing? Why the gates? Are the oil workers and Charmagne not one and the same?
In case you misunderstood, I wasn't soloing in reality. I was just bouldering the beginning of that route. I see no glory in soloing... unless it gets you on the cover of Rock & Ice.

Then are we allowed to climb there if we walked in?
We're all in this together
Walkin' the line between faith and fear
This life don't last forever
When you cry I taste the salt in your tears.

Anyway about the dogs. JH, you need to approach dogs more carefully. I'm sure you do already, but don't go near them unless you have to or unless you no that they will be friendly to you. I have never had a problem with any of the dogs. I just make sure that I approach them slowly and I don't surprise or scare them. Any dog can get defensive if you move to quickly around them and scare them, you just have to be more cautious. I even scared Gunner on Sat. night when I bent over to pet him because my headlamp slipped and hit him in the head. But he came close to snapping at me. You often have to gain a dog's trust and respect.

SL: No, they aren't. Charmagne is an oil company with executive offices and a staff of neckties making decisions. The oil workers are blue-collar, hardworking men who do what they are told so that they can continue to work. All of them that I've run accross are nice people trying to make an honest living. They aren't going to do anything illegal, they are just trying to provide for themselves and their families and keep their jobs.

I'm sorry, but I just don't feel we should have to tip-toe around dogs in order to climb. Most of them are running loose, and the ones that are leashed are right on the trail, or at the base of the route, so how can you not get near them? I came there to climb. If I wanted to be around dogs, I would have gone to a kennel. As I stated before, it's all about being considerate of others. I suppose some people were raised different.
Thanks again for listening,
Jeff
