Nice! The biggest Kentucky ice that I've seen photos of was from the winter of '78-'79, or thereabouts, when Pearsall lead a big column on the Kentucky River Palisades. Of course, nothing ever lasts for long around there. :(

Same ice as OP, but Friday morning. I am sure it is gone now...

Clifton, are all those pics from this year? Looks like you got after it. Nice!

Yes,all this season. It's been a really good winter, hopefully some of it will hang around.

Would anyone want to show a dirtbag like me to some sick ice like this? I just got back from the Michigan Icefest and I am itching to sink my tools into some ice again. I will reward you with beer and fudge from the Slade shell station. With the precipitation we've got in the forecast and the cold temps on the way, I imagine something has got to be in on Sunday or so.

Super ! We used to climb thin smears of ice here in IL at Starved Rock State Park back in the 80's,,but they closed off all those canyons with seeps,,afraid our tools would permanently damage the soft sandstone beneath it. Had some epic routes, leads on the shortest screws available back then, and tied off, no 'screamers' available in 80's. Wish we had more natural ice in our area instead of 'farming' ice as we do now on the side of old concrete farm silos.

Ditto here, same great winters here,,,the biggest ice and snow seasons here in Midwest were from about 77' to '86,,thus we got the officials to recognize the opportunity to open up Starved Rock to ice climbing in 1980. Sure miss those days of Big Winters and huge ice.

I've started a Kentucky Ice Climbing FB page to help folks keep up with our fickle ice climbing season. It's very short, but also very sweet. I have beta on some stuff outside of the Red, as well as some good non-waterfall routes in the Red.

That is all.

Cool Heath. Feel free to use my photos on this topic for your Facebook page. It looks like you all are getting a good cold snap, so maybe the ice will show up.
