MFRP Rainy Day Climbing

Post by bcircell »

Hi All,

Never been to MFRP, but I am entertaining the idea of entering the Clip-N-Go on Saturday. Of course, the forecast looks terrible and with my luck with rain this year I'm not getting my hopes up. That being said, how dry do the crags at MFRP remain when exposed to large amounts of water? If there are only a few select areas, that would be good to know.

Cheers,
Ben

In the interest of public knowledge, I'll answer my own thread - seeing as I threw the dice and checked it out. It had rained all week, and fairly heavily the night before, and rained all through the day that we were there.

Serenity Point/Chaos - The three 11's (Hammer Time, Rising Hegemon, Return of the Mohan) were all dry. One drop was not. King Ducky and the chosstastic 12b in the cave to the right were also dry.

Monastery - Barking Dogmas through The Shaman remained dry. Everything else was wet.

Secret Garden - Sloppy Seconds remained dry, Little Wing was climbable, but wet at the bottom.

Infirmary can also be good in the rain, as can Fruit Wall and Deep End (harder stuff) depending on dew point.

Cooper's is also decent in the rain -- even a downpour. However, if it rains a lot water will eventually soak through/run off on to the chains and last bolt on most routes. The Hustle and Road Kill seem to stay dry regardless.
