Miller Fork approach?

Post by WoahNellie »

I see how to get to the crags once you're at the main Miller Fork parking area, but what's the approach to get to that area from Slade?

Thanks!

Take 11 south towards Beattyville. Just past Koops General Store take a left on Shumaker Ridge Rd. Go little over three miles past a number of residences (So drive slowly) until you see on the right a private drive and an unpaved road next to each other. The unpaved road which is the second of the two going sharply down a hill is Hell Creek Rd. Take Hell Creek Road down to the bottom of the hill and then take a right on the first unpaved road before the ford across the creek. Keep going until you see the MFRP parking lot on the left.

Once turning onto Shoemaker Ridge Road, Hell Creek Road is 3.2 miles.

We've put signs up to mark the right turn on the gravel road, but they keep getting stolen (and probably not by climbers!). :-(

The turn is immediately after Angel Falls road and a green gate to sunrise mountain retreat.

Once you make the right turn at the bottom of the hill keep going. It's a little ways and you can't miss the parking lot.

Yes, driving slowly and cautiously is much appreciated. There are often dogs in the road and people driving through the curves as though they are the only ones on the road. :D
