A big thank you to the 75+ climbers who dropped their Saturday night plans to come to Muir when a neighbor's fire got out of hand and threatened to spread here. Thanks Dario and Clifton for "ringing the fire bell." The conditions are tinder box right now, and a fire on the steep sides of the Valley would be difficult to put out. Some of you may remember 8 years ago when 20 acres burned here. There are two fires in the rrg area that have been burning for days - one has yet to be put out. Fortunately, the our neighbor had a dozer and was able to cut a fire break on his property. So, for now, even though the fire is still burning over 15 acres, it's staying within the fire break.
We're still keeping an eye out for a spark to jump the break, but this looks like a happy ending.
It's nice to know when the chips are down, the climbing community comes together to lend a hand.
Thank you Sky Bridge Station, Miguels, and LOTA!

glad to hear it!!! One of the reasons I moved to KY is because of the climber spirit here - there might be a lot of banter back and forth on this site but as you said "when the chip are down, the climbing community comes together to lend a hand."weber wrote:A big thank you to the 75+ climbers who dropped their Saturday night plans to come to Muir when a neighbor's fire got out of hand and threatened to spread here. Haha, we were leaving Miur when it started. There were only a couple other cars in the parking lot, and my friend said it looked like a controlled burn. 5 minutes after we got back to LOTA, people were running through the parking lot recruiting climbers. We drove back and there were like 30 cars there now. Haha, it's good that they got it under control
